Committee Hears More Testimony On School Report

The House Education Committee heard more testimony on HB 300 the Governor's Committee Report and on a bill raising school non-attendance penalties. Rep Dan Kubiak said the teacher pay raise bill will exit subcommittee soon. He notes HB 1074 would raise penalties for parents who fail to ensure regular attendance. The session also discussed tax politics including a one year appropriations bill to offset any tax hike and opposition to new taxes. Governor Smith urged a seven member commission to obtain census tapes for prompt 1971 redistricting, with rural areas risking representation.
