Milam County seeks $10,000 crime aid under federal act
Milam County Commissioners Court voted to apply for more than ten thousand dollars in state aid via the Federal Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 for a ten point crime prevention program. Funds would cover jail improvements, probation office costs, fingerprinting gear, extra sheriff's deputies, filing and training, equipment and clothing, law library, and radio upgrades with local and state shares outlined. County Judge C. B. Harden said the county would assume financing within two to three years and act independently rather than join Bell and McLennan agencies.

Services Friday For EC121 Pilot Lt Joseph Ribar
A full military funeral for Lt. Joseph RK. Ribar will be held at Marak Church at noon Friday. Ribar died when his plane was shot down over the Sea of Japan on April 14. Services will be conducted by Rev. Harry Bilski and burial will follow at Marak Cemetery with full military honors.

Yoe Senior Receives College Scholarship
Patricia Stroup daughter of Mr and Mrs L W Stroup of Cameron was named recipient of a 1150 dollar grant aid scholarship to Christian College Columbia MO. Officials of the college notified the Yoe High School honor student Friday. Patricia is among the top ten students in the 1969 Yee senior class. Miss Stroup is the second Cameron girl to receive the Christian College scholarship. Jane Burns will begin her sophomore year at Christian in the fall as Patricia begins her freshman year. Lt Ribar was aboard a US Navy reconnaissance plane downed by North Korean jet fighters. Bodies of only two of the 31 men aboard were recovered in the Sea of Japan. A Navy honor guard accompanied Ribar’s body into Dallas from Japan Sunday. Ribar, his wife and one child had lived in Japan during his assignment. Mrs Ribar, whose parents have a home at Marak, flew from Japan to Corpus Christi with a Navy CACO officer. Mrs Ribar is the daughter of Mr and Mrs M T Morris now of Corpus Christi and granddaughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Gurecky of Marak. She attended Yee High School, IA. Ribar is survived by his wife, Mrs Emma Jean Ribar, one son Joseph Taylor Ribar, both of Corpus Christi, his mother Mrs Anna Ribar of Ambridge PA, four sisters Miss Gracie Ribar of West Palm Beach FL, Mrs Don Taylor of Conway PA, Mrs Delores Musgrove of Newark NJ, and Miss Margie Ribar of Ambridge PA. Rosary was recited Wednesday and will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Marck Burns Funeral Home in Cameron.

Four Arraigned Two Sentenced In Milam District Court
Milam County District Court arraigned four defendants on Wednesday morning and sentenced two others. District Judge W. C. Wallace set June trial dates for the four defandants. Iain Davenport of Copperas Cove pleaded guilty to felony theft and escape and received three years in Huntsville State Penitentiary. Larry Joe Mitchell of Fort Worth pled guilty to murder without malice and driving while intoxicated and received a five year probationary sentence.

Obituary of Ted Ward longtime designer in orthopedic braces
Thomas C. Ward 67 of Waco died Friday in a Waco hospital. He was the son of the late Dr and Mrs T C Ward of Marlin. He was married to Dorothy Lesovsky and was a retired designer and manufacturer of orthopedic braces and surgical equipment. He had lived in California eleven years before returning to Waco in 1968.
