Texas residents must set clocks forward one hour this Sunday as daylight saving time begins. A Texas legislature bid to exempt the state from the uniform national change failed, keeping DST in effect nationwide.

Texas Crime Council seeks Omnibus Bill goals and grants

Willis Whatley of the Texas Criminal Justice Council outlined the state’s use of a $1.1 million federal grant for fiscal 1969 toward crime reduction under the Omnibus Crime Bill. He noted a six point plan emphasizing local control, evaluation, and balanced programs with 40 percent state match and 60 percent bloc grant funding.

Man Drowns In Tank Near Cameron

A 71 year old man, Henry William Brown, was found dead Saturday evening in a stock tank near Cameron, apparently drowning while fishing. Justice of the Peace Jess Brock ruled it accidental. Brown, a longtime Cameron resident and Oak Hill Cemetery caretaker, leaves a wife, one son, three daughters, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at St Monica's Church with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Kellett of Camp Tetett and Camp announced that Milam County investors applied to the Texas Savings and Loan Commissioner for a Cameron based savings and loan association named Ben Milam Savings and Loan Association. Royal Seating Plans Expansion of Cameron Plant

Royal Seating Corporation of Cameron has started production and announced expansion plans. The 32590 square foot facility on a ten acre site in Cameron Industrial Park will grow in four phases to 150000 square feet, adding about 23 new jobs as automation notes improve efficiency. A new line of student furniture features a single molded seat and back made from high density plastics designed for comfort and durability.

Services Held For Mrs Ray Lester Dress Shop Owner

Mrs Ray Lester died after a long illness and services were held at First Methodist Church. Burial followed in Little River Cemetery. She owned Berniece's Dress Shop and was active in the Cameron Women's II Association and the Milam County Cancer Crusade. She is survived by her husband, son, daughter, parents, siblings, and three grandchildren. Green's Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Governor Smith hosts a series of open house receptions at the Governor's Mansion inviting the public. Senator Murray Wetson notes the Eth District event on May 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. and says this is the first such statewide mansion reception.

Mrs Bonnie Owen Maddux of 1301 North Houston Street Vera died early Tuesday morning at a local hospital after illness. Born in Alabama she lived in Ben Arnold and Cameron since 1883. Funeral 2 p m Wednesday at Green's Funeral Home chapel with Revs Lafferty and Skinner officiating. Burial in Ben Arnold Cemetery.
