Cobs Proved Poor Feed for Steers
In 1949 at the Ralston Purina Research Farm Gray Summit Missouri two hundred white face steers split into two groups received ground corn cobs with supplement but no grain. After 60 days cob fed steers gained less than TM% per day versus nearly two pounds for grain fed steers with grain and supplement. Cost per pound of gain was about three times higher on cobs leading to 60 day discontinuation and a switch to grain.

Insulation Foil Rolls Use in Poultry House Walls
The passage describes foil type insulation in rolls made with insulating sisal paper. It explains heat stoppage by restricting air movement via millions of tiny cells and a reflective surface that bounces heat. Reflective facing can be covered yet still effective. Insulation sizes fit poultry house constructions with 16 and 24 inch centers. It notes labor and time savings in applying commercial insulation versus other forms.
Hybrids Boost Texas Corn Yields Across State
Texas Agricultural Experiment Station and 4-H and adult demonstrators show hybrids can raise corn yields 20 to 50 percent. Demonstrators average 7.5 bushels per acre gain. 1,297,000 acres planted in 1950s. Hybrid adoption remains low at 52 percent of total corn acres, with Tex as yellow hybrids 20 24 26 28 highlighted as outyielding older varieties.
