J C Gates 81 and his wife 76 were struck by a pickup while walking home from Mexia night clubs. Neeley Ray Medlin 26 of Wortham was arrested for failure to stop and render aid. Examining trial set for Monday. The accident occurred about 12 15 a m one mile north of the city limits. Gates decapitated. head found 100 yards away. Funeral services held. No survivors listed.

Plane Crash Near Belton Kills Two Men
A small Cessna 140 crashed near Belton Texas in fog, killing two Austin men identified as William Byrd Kelly and Lawrence N. Slade. Rancher G Watts reported observing the plane low at 3 40 am before a subsequent explosion and crash. The wreck bore NC76560 and a sticker for Ragsdale Flying Service of Austin was found.
