Helen Soriano twenty two year old daughter of Mr and Mrs J D Soriano of Cameron is improving in a local hospital from serious burns suffered last week at her home. Doctors say she had first and second degree burns when she fell into a small washtub of hot water and burned over one third of her body.

Milam 49ers Seek Separation Exams Before Return Home
Cameron soldiers of the 49th Armored Division at Fort Polk undergo final separation physicals at the U S Army Hospital Port Polk to complete processing for release from active duty. About 20 000 reservists and guardsmen are examined at 60 per hour with completion aimed by June 30. The 49th Division, largely Texans from 74 cities, plans to depart Texas August 6-7 with release at midnight August 9. Training continues for 100 men of Company C 3rd Medium Tank Battalion 112th Armor amid mobility tests for III STRAC deployment readiness. Major General Harley B West notes normal training through July 15 then homeward focus. Administrative work involves 23 separation forms per man plus updating 25 existing forms before August. Funeral Services for Mrs Meta McCown Held in Cameron
Funeral services were held Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Cameron for Mrs Meta Thompson McCown born December 28 1872 in Corinth Mississippi daughter of John Franklin and Mary Thompson. She moved to Cameron in 1886 married Robert L McCown in 1902 and died with her husband and son John Franklin referenced among the deceased. Survived by two daughters Mrs A J Montgomery of Igsaquati Washington and Mrs Harry Tay of Cameron and son Robert L McCown of Ennis plus three grandchildren. She served as Deputy County Clerk under Miss Lillian Atkinson and Tromer Nabours and was active in the Presbyterian Church and Women of the Church.
