County Eyes 10 Percent Pay Increase for Officials

County commissioners plan a 10 percent salary rise for 19 county and precinct officers. A public hearing is set for 9 p.m. Monday at Mikun Courthouse to review the proposal after a May 17 resolution. Names include District Clerk, County Attorney, County Judge, Sheriff, Tax Collector, Treasurer, and Precinct 1–4 Commissioners and Precinct 1–8 Constables.

Funeral Services Held For Dellie Ware Maedgen

Dellie Ware Maedgen 75 of Troy died in a Temple hospital from injuries after a truck collision near Troy on FM 935. He was a lifelong Troy resident, farmer, and husband of Annie Crawford Maedgen. Survivors include his wife two daughters a sister a brother and five grandchildren. Funeral was Sunday at Hewett Funeral Home with Rev J W Gill and Rev Marshall Edwards officiating. Burial in Roberts Cemetery.

Epperson Services Held In Austin Tuesday

Funeral services for Roy Epperson 66 of Austin were held at Green Funeral Home Tuesday at 2 p m. The World War I veteran and Masonic Lodge member died unexpectedly at his Austin home Sunday night. He worked 25 years for the Texas Employment Commission and previously studied in Cameron. He is survived by his wife and two brothers J Epperson of Tyler and Bentley Epperson of Nederland.

Leonard Wins NCO Award at Fort Polk Graduation

William K. Leonard of Cameron's Company C, 3rd Med Tank Bn, led 112 NCO graduates with a 94.43 average in the advanced level class. He served as First Sergeant and Squad Leader, trained in map reading and warfare leadership, and previously worked as a junior analyst at Alcoa after a Yee High School graduate.

Cameron Chamber Hears Marable At First Meet

About 50 members attended Cameron Chamber of Commerce Tuesday night for the first of its kind meeting. Paul S. Marable of the Waco Chamber urged Central Texas to adapt to the needs of the 1960s and congratulated organizers for securing 49 new members in one day.

The $300 000 brick Newton Memorial Hospital will open to the public Sunday after dedication and an open house from 3 to 4 p m. The ultra modern structure features new equipment, private outside view rooms with TV, updated labor and operating rooms, air conditioning, fluorescent lighting, and nurse call systems.

Cameron Western Week to Crown Queen July 7

The Cameron annual Western Week runs July 5 6 7 with a queen contest on Saturday July 7. Juddy Shipp chairing the Chamber queen contest invites civic clubs to sponsor entrants and individuals may sponsor entries. Candidates must be 16 single residents of Cameron School District and available for the July 7 parade and queen judging. Entry deadline is midnight July.

A Cameron real estate man Jack Tomlinson was named on the sign. inquiries followed before his wife removed the sign. Smith called Tomlinson and dismissed the incident as harmless mischief.

Milam County Strongly Supports Connally in Governor Runoff

Milam County totals show John Connally leading in the governor race with 4389 votes to Don Yarboroughs 349, and Turman over Smith 1952 to 1443. In other races Joe Pool beats Woodrow Wilson Bean 1957 to 1405 while Carr trails across Texas. Local pattern mirrors liberal rural preference for Yarborough Turman but conservative on Pool Carr in most contests.
