Newton Memorial Hospital Set to Open June Ten
The $300000 Newton Memorial Hospital will hold a formal opening from 3 to 6 p m Sunday June 10. The four wing facility north of the old Newton Hospital on North Jefferson includes 25 patient rooms with 19 private baths and a 28 bed capacity with emergency provisions for 53. Construction by Lemands Construction Co of Conroe began in 1960 funded by Cameron donations of 60000 and a Hill Burton federal grant of about 150000.

Buckholts Native Proposes Roadside Park Near Buckholts

Double shooting leaves 15 year old dead in Rosebud area
A 15 year old Burlington girl Beverly Marek died from a head wound after a gunfight at the Arthur Lange farm west of Rosebud. Her fiancé Albert Lange age 22 was critically wounded with a head wound and paralyzed on his left side. Local officials say Lange may have attempted self harm after the shooting. The couple had been engaged and had just returned from a fishing trip. The Rosebud sheriff's office and local deputy investigated with services pending.

Tractor Overturns on FM 486 Killing One Injuring Two
A tractor carrying three men overturned at noon on Farm Rd 486 near Thorndale. Juan San Miguel escaped injury while Frank Vasquez died and Fred Galvin was injured. Galvin received treatment at Rockdale hospital with no other vehicle involved. Funeral services were pending Wednesday.
