Young County Farmers Learn Value of Fertilizer

County Agent R. Dunkle reports farmers in Young County are using four times as much commercial fertilizer as five years ago. Demonstrations on the F. T. Littlejohn farm in Red Top show a 419 pound per acre grain sorghum increase with 50 pounds of 16-20-0. An extra 8 bushels per acre on Westar wheat with 100 pounds of 16-20-0 supported the trend. Several farmers have sent soil samples to Texas A&M Soil Testing Lab and plan fertilizer according to its recommendations. Soil testing costs one dollar per sample.
