Milam County Farmers Hear Talk On Farm Planning With Electronics

About 200 Milam County Farm Bureau members and others attended a Cameron program on linear programming using electronic computers to optimize farm resources. Texas A M extension specialists Cecil Parker and Lloyd Bergema spoke on farm management and beef and hog market outlook for 1960. The event was sponsored by Milam County Farm Bureau and the Cameron Chamber of Commerce livestock committee.

Firemen Halt Downtown Blaze at New Cameron Drug

Firefighters contained a Friday night fire in Cameron affecting the ceiling above the prescription department and store office. Earl Curtis credited quick action by Cameron volunteers for limiting loss while preserving prescription and office records. Smoke caused major interior damage. crews battled flames from ground level and the roof.

Two Men Charged After Cameron Break-In

Police charged Louis Johnson aged 25 of Cameron and L T Ward Jr aged 28 from Houston with breaking and entering and theft. About 4 30 am Sunday the pair allegedly stole $100 in change from coin machines in the Blue Moon Case operated by Booker T Williams. Sheriff Black returned Ward from Houston to face the charges.

White Files For Year's Term On School Board

Cameron business man C A White has filed with School Board Secretary Max Howard to run for the one year unexpired term created by H B Pressley's resignation. The election is April 2. Regular three year posts are held by Mrs Dana Monroe and F W Vogelsang. The board began screening superintendent applicants and weighs hiring a superintendent or head coach while considering other vacancy plans.

Cameron Rotarians Wednesday elected five new directors to take office July 1. President George Childress announced that Henry Liebman, W. L. McIntosh, W. C. Wallace, Wayne Wieser and Bassel Wilson were elected by club vote.

McClaren Sisters Lead Milam County Livestock Winners

Patricia McClaren led a list of county winners at the Milam County Junior Livestock Show in Cameron where she exhibited the grand champion steer. Barbara McClaren won reserve champion, with the steer bred by Seth Turner of Dublin. the grand champion steer was bred by N. A. Mason. About 60 entries drew praise despite drizzle that kept crowds away.

Prescott Resigns As City Attorney

The Cameron City Council accepted City Attorney Jack Prescott's resignation and named Charles C. Smith Jr. as successor, effective March 1 as Prescott runs for county attorney. The meeting also covered Sixth Street paving estimates, curb and guttering, and appointed Dan Gunn and B. J Matocha as April election judges.

Milam Officials Seek Ways to Halt Rabies Epidemic

Milam County officials call a public hearing at 9 a.m. Monday in Cameron to discuss control measures for a state declared rabies epidemic among wildlife and cattle. County Judge Don Humble outlines vaccination outside town limits and possible U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service help, with Dr. Rich of the State Health Dept. likely present to answer questions. About 10 rabies cases were reported in cattle and wildlife over the past week.

Sunday Deadline to Pay Poll Tax in Cameron

Officials announced a Sunday deadline for poll tax payment in Cameron. City and county offices will stay open from 1 AM to midnight Sunday January 31. By midday 585 city poll taxes and 3,072 county taxes had been paid in Cameron and Rockdale. No county figure was available from Thorndale.

Three More Democrats File For May Ballot

W C Wallace Joe Zajicek and F B Burks filed this week for May 7 Democratic primary spots. Wallace, a Cameron attorney, seeks district judge. Zajicek, from Buckholts, runs for Precinct 1 commissioner. Burks of Milano seeks Precinct 3 constable. Filing deadline is February 1, according to Max McClaren.

Police Note 66 Accidents In 1959 On Cameron Streets

Police Chief Chester Simons reported 1959 accidents on Cameron streets totaled 66 with about 20 400 dollars in damage. Eleven people were injured, no fatalities. The annual report shows 468 traffic tickets issued, 1 268 complaints answered. Four men worked 14 040 hours and drove 40 000 miles patrolling Cameron streets and highways.
