Milam County May 7 Primary Ballot Backs 28 Candidates

Nine more Democratic candidates filed by the Monday midnight deadline, bringing Milam County a total of 28 on the May 7 primary ballot. County Chairman Max McClaren listed candidates officially before the deadline. State senator races include Bell Milam McLennan Counties Godfrey Sullivan, a Waco attorney and contractor. State representative races list Robertson Milam Counties Richard Moseley of Cameron.

Cameron hobbyists seek single model train display

Cameron readers learn of local interest in a combined model train exhibit to showcase tracks trains and equipment for children. Party Honors George Banzhaf on 90th Birthday

A group of friends and co workers honored George Banzhaf, pioneer Texas county agent, with a 90th birthday party. Banzhaf was among the first county agents in Texas and accepted the tribute with calm dignity.

P T A Observes Founders Day Hear Secrest At Cameron Cafetorium

Cameron laurent-Teachers Association will observe Founders Day of the National Organization tonight and hear State Sen. Jarrard Secrest at Ben Milam Cafetorium. The Cameron P TA president urged all parents to attend the 7 30 p m program and a tea will honor Cameron Public School teachers. Founders of the national organization were Mrs Alice McLellan Birney and Mrs Phoebe Apperson Hearst. The Action Program is Strengthening the Home Source of Our Nation s Greatness. An earlier Milam County tribute recalled long public service by Banzhaf, milestone agent for the county from 1908 to 1946.

Mild weekend forecast for the Milam area as heavy rains drenched Cameron and vicinity Tuesday night. Official measurements show 12 inches of rain by Wednesday morning, with temperatures varying from the mid 20s to the low 70s across January and February readings.

Maroon Gray Day Planned At Yee High School

The annual Maroon and Gray Day is set for Tuesday February 9 with all students invited to participate. Final judging by a PTA committee will occur at 9 30 AM in the Yee High School Auditorium and parents may attend. Winners from Ben Milam Ada Henderson and Yee High School will be recognized at halftime of the evening basketball game, the season’s final contest.

City to Pave 20 Blocks Of Cameron Streets

Cameron city council moved to pave and seal coat about 20 more blocks of Cameron streets as part of a master plan. Projects include West Main from Crockett to Columbus, Sixth Street from Fannin to North Crockett, and North Crockett from W Eighth to W 12th with costs ranging from 487.44 to 2120. Also approved a taxi franchise for Elmo Anderson of Waco for Green Ball Taxi Co. Mondrik resigns from City Atty position effective with successor election.

Mrs. Dana Monroe seeks re election as acting chair of the Cameron School Board while a TEA ruling requires the board to name a successor to the unexpired term of H B Pressley. A White filed for vacancy as applications for superintendent and coaching posts are screened for an April 2 election cycle.

Poll Taxes Collected in Milam County and City

Officials at the Court house and City Hall reported poll taxes paid in Milam County totalled 4892 with 994 in the city. The 1960 county total rose above 1958 figures which were about 3600. In the city about 700 registered for poll tax payment in 1959.

Four Accidents Kill One Injure Three on Milam Roads

A rash of four accidents on Milam roads left Harold Lee Snively dead on arrival at St. Edwards Hospital after a Friday night crash on FM Road 2269 west of Cameron. Emory Jack Fletcher was treated and released after the two vehicle smash, while Anton Anderle and George German suffered serious injuries in a separate collision.

Anderle German collision marks Milam Road death

Investigation into the Anderle German crash on Milam Road continued as German entering US 77 from SH 36 collided with Anderle’s 1955 Chevrolet pickup. Sheriff Carl Black answered the wreck call. A second afternoon collision near Rockdale involved Lavada Yoakum and Paul Sako witz, with minor damage and no injuries.
