A list of names issued this week shows county officials and spouses across towns such as Cameron Rockdale Buckholts and Rosebud being documented by the comptroller for relief measures. Mr N Green presented Cameron Fire Department a ten dollar check for services Sunday afternoon. Firefighters saved H F Smith Sr and his son's home from a blaze. Green's gift matches a second contribution and aids the department near his own home.
Miss Julia Marshall is visiting Missouri City gathering local reactions and sightseeing during her stay. She is seen touring the town and meeting residents as part of a brief visit.
The M E Church at Minerva has been completed and enhanced into an imposing structure. Much credit for the improvement goes to J W Gore of Minerva who has persistently supported welfare movements in the community.
Sunday afternoon about 3 30 o clock fire gutted the home of Mr and Mrs O M Smith with trunks money and Mrs Smith s mother Mrs Chas F Swift of Gardiner Mo and cousin Mrs John E Bradley of Worcester Mass visiting. Fire likely from kitchen stove as sparks blew in from north wind. Total loss about 10000 with 4500 insured. Fire department saved H F Smith residence next door and prevented further damage to nearby buildings.
A. J. Dossett purchased Edward Rotan’s English style residence at Columbus and Fifteenth in Waco for 40000 dollars. The deal includes 439 acres of Milam county land to Rotan and marks Dossett as a prominent Central Texas investor moving to make Waco home permanent. The Rotan property features 165 feet frontage on Columbus and 350 feet depth to Barnard, with bitulithic paving on both streets.
Elizabeth Slaughter Foster, born October 10 1817 in Hines County Tennessee, died January 29 1917 at Hoyte Texas aged 99 years 3 months and 19 days. She married Isaac Foster January 22 1834 and left 17 children 11 sons 6 daughters with 50 descendants. Her two youngest sons cared for her after aging sight faded while maintaining the family farm for 70 years in Texas.
Mr. Dan Cass of Gause served as a caller at the Herald office on Monday and is noted as a staunch friend of the newspaper.
