Roy E Fox's Popular Players tour Cameron after a three year absence delivering vaudeville between plays and strong bands. Friday features Saint Elmo the melodrama with the troupe promising capacity crowds. Saturday matinee at 2 30 offers Dora Thorne with a strong cast.
In a letter Polk C Webb selects teams for the Inter scholastic League of Milam County and Georgetown Athletics. He asks teachers and assistants to pay a one dollar membership and prepare a county contest team for the March event, aiming to reflect credit on each school and compete at Georgetown against Travis and Williamson counties.
Paul King, formerly of Cameron and now farming in Briery, visited the city on Saturday on business. He praised the Herald for its stance on good roads and urged forming a Cameron commercial club with a paid secretary to boost the town, noting the Herald will contribute fifty dollars yearly.
The Baptist church hosts a revival beginning next Sunday at 11 am led by Evangelists Caleb A. Ridley and James Jolly. Ridley, a seasoned pastor, has served in Beaumont Texas and Atlanta Georgia. Jolly is a noted gospel singer. The pastor invites pastors, Christians, and town singers to join in prayer and participation.
The Herald highlights W. J. Green of the Liberty area as an example of profitable hog production. Green sold 20 head for 198.50 and still has 39 hogs, noting hogs can outpace cotton in profit and provide diversification.
J H Martin president of the National Leather and Shoe Association urged methods to cut the cost of living in Chicago. He said repairing old shoes could save thousands of dollars daily and noted shoes have become unaffordable for moderate households.
Messrs. Sam and Wallace Rudder of near Ben Arnold were in the city Monday and paid the Herald a pleasant call.
County clerk issued licenses this week to Methon Guyhbanhea and Millie Natbea Robi Tennon and Susie Der nan Rob Young and Mabel Johnson E L Lander and Naoma Hen E L Alexander and Carrie McDonald W H Stafford and Bettie Thomas. Auto register lists car purchases: T K Wilson Buckholts Ford Shear Co Rockdale Republic truck J C McCowley Cameron Maxwell.
A list of recent real estate transfers shows numerous parcel sales across Milam, Rockdale, Davilla, Milano, and Buckholts. Buyers include J N Hyde, Oscar Coffey, J B Newton & Sons, Eva Jenness, S H Woods, and others with sums ranging from 200 to 14,001 dollars for various9366 acres and multiple blocks and leagues.
Milam county landowners are urged to terrace to prevent soil washout and boost yields. George Banzhaf says erosion costs farmers thousands annually while terracing builds moisture storage and long term value. E W Kirkpatrick notes terraces add wealth, with home gardens and orchards contributing as well.
Mr R R Henderson of Maysfield was summoned to Beaumpt last week after a message said his brother had been badly burned in a trash fire. He reached his brother shortly before the death from the fire's effects. The Herald joins friends in extending sympathy.
Herman Rosenfeld of Sears Roebuck declares a bureau scans country papers for ad gaps and floods towns with mail literature when merchants skip local papers. He says mail order houses cannot advertise in the Herald, calling them hurtful to towns and communities.
Last Monday afternoon Mrs. C. Witte was hostess to a surprise party by her friends. Refreshments were served and the evening was enjoyed by all.
In Cameron the community is urged to observe thrift day on Saturday February 3 as a call to care for finances. The article notes rising costs, cheaper money rates, and the federal land bank’s role in promoting thrift while urging banks to back the campaign.
Extra Good Pictures at the Wonderland Theatre present Clara Kimball Young in Without A Soul as Lola. First show on Thursday February 8 with matinee at 2 pm and evening performances at 7 pm. Tickets 10 cents for all, 20 cents for adults at night.

Mrs. E. E. Green hosted a Friday afternoon reception for bride Mrs. Leslie Green at her Rosebud home. Guests in elegant attire admired crimson carnations and silver, enjoyed ice cream and angel food as music filled the parlor and dining room. Rosebud Enterprise.
Mr. Jess Thach, active in bridge work and auto sales, builds a substantial wood and cement inn style bridge across the creek just west of Branchville. Upon completion it will withstand the elements for all time, fulfilling a long standing need and providing Milam County with a splendid structure.
Mrs Vernon McIntyre and her sister Miss Etna Smith returned last week to Marathon. Friends express happiness at her recovery.
