Sterling Pardoned extremist Richards used as campaign asset
Ben C. Richards Jr a Dallas forged check convict was granted a full pardon by Governor Sterling to aid the 1931 Dallas Fort Worth campaign. Correspondence shows campaign manager Ernest Alexander touted Richards as best organizer and he soon sold stock for Alexander’s stores, while Richards faced later resignation as election judge amid a forged‑check tied voting dispute.
