Milam County Democratic Executive Committee outlines strict voting rules for election managers. The guidance stresses poll tax checks, age and citizenship requirements, and penalties for violations, with emphasis on avoiding loitering, electioneering, and improper ballot handling at polling places.
J H Cyclone Davis of Sulphur Springs, a noted dry leader and former congressman, spoke on the Cameron courthouse lawn to a sizable crowd. His opponent is Joseph Weldon Bailey Jr. of Dallas. Davis, 77, remains active and campaigned with daily speeches and support from defeated rivals.
Weekly Cotton Letter notes the Government crop estimate at 11 306 000 bales suggesting higher consumption than production in the season. Weevil damage rises in the Central and Eastern states while storms in Texas affect open cotton. Continental spinners edge buying higher with New York sales aiding mills. Milam County Commissioners Court set the final budget hearing for September 7 in the district court room. Citizens urged revisions, protesting a 85,000 to 7,000 expenditure for right of way on the Cameron Burlington road amid plans to finish highway work.

To Tax Payers of Cameron the City Council grants a deferral of all penalties on delinquent taxes until November 20 1932. Partial payments may be made and if the full delinquent amount is paid by the date no penalty is charged. If not paid in full by the deadline penalties accrue. The city needs funds for expenses and schools. Mayor Chas C Smith urges cooperation.
Recent visitors to the home of Rev and Mrs W P Elliott at Marlow included Mr and Mrs G Conley of Ardmore Oklahoma Mrs J Bansom of Milford Texas and Leland and Johan Cornell of Denison Texas.
Eastland judge J E Hickman, 49, a UT law graduate and former Chief Justice of the Court of Civil Appeals, is endorsed by Milam County Democrats and many Texas lawyers for Associate Justice of the Supreme Court. A mass Eastland County meeting approved a resolution praising his qualifications and character.
Joe Burkett spoke Saturday afternoon for the Congressman at Large race place No. 3 urging drastic cuts in government spending and taxes, abolition of useless boards, and a state regulated liquor system. He attacked opponent Sterling Strong and urged Democrats to back him to aid the party’s ticket.
Paul Lablohn of Baton Rouge Louisiana visited Aurel de Bessonette on the first of the week in a brief social note highlighting local acquaintances.
Cameron county visits by George B. Terrell former Commissioner of Agriculture and Democrat candidate for Congress at Large in Place No 1. He trails Pink Parrish in the runoff but remains loyal to the ticket, endorses repealing the 18th Amendment and abolishing the Farm Board. He supports the soldier bonus and government obligations and attacks Tom Love’s influence.
Milam County government reduces its 1931 budget by roughly 16 2/3 percent under the guidance of county auditor Giles L Arriett. A new budget law requires filing between August 1 and 15 with hearings held, and further changes possible if tax renditions fall again. Courts aim to avoid tax increases while maintaining services despite declining property values.
Pope Sapp aged 38 died suddenly at his Cameron home on Saturday night August 13 1992. Cause listed as ruptured blood vessel or acute dilation of the heart. He was born December 13 1894 native to Cameron and survived by wife Nadine Sharpe and son Pope Clayton Sapp. Funeral held August 14 at multiple Cameron churches with large attendance. burial at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Boles and daughter of Dallas were guests here for a few hours en route to San Antonio and Corpus Christi. They reported that her grandmother Mrs. Billie Ross was much improved after illness and that Mr. Ross is in good health. Mr. and Mrs. Ross formerly lived in Cameron and have many friends here who are interested in them.
Mrs. R L Batte remains ill at her home but shows signs of improvement, with household members reporting she is somewhat better.
