By Your Soil Conservationist B C Hanks LCS Area Engineer and Wayne Mann Cameron Soil Conservationist have completed a survey of the land that was leveled recently in Little River Bottom which was subjected to the spring overflows.
Soil Conservation Service technicians survey leveled bottomland across the area from MIlam County line to the Brazos. C V Griggs and N H Clark Jr report less damage on leveled land, Buckholts farmers Joe Glaser and John Zajicek say leveled land was in good condition. Experts warn to level near natural grade, avoid obstructions, and plan with engineers and the local Soil Conservation District.
College Station based economist John McHaney says most farm prices will hold with usual seasonal declines through 1957. Meat animal markets, hog slaughter, and cattle prices are expected steady to stronger. lamb and egg prices may rise, while wheat output is forecast near 971 million bushels and feed grains likely average lower than 1956.
Cameron Auction reports 386 cattle and 48 hogs sold from 124 sellers in Thursday sale. Bidding steady to stronger than last week with good stocker steers and quality cows and calves bringing higher prices. prices listed for butcher calves, yearlings, stocker calves, and hogs among others.
