Bugs and aphids plague sorghum amid cold spell and weeds
The grain sorghum crop suffers from winter cold, yellow sugarcane aphids, and green bugs reducing stands. Aphids threaten young sorghum, with control options limited as Parthoion and Systex unavailable. A hard rain could ease the problem, while herbicide use requires permits and careful spraying to avoid crop damage and neighbor disputes. The note closes with a folk tale about Huron Indians guiding fish.

State Milk Marketing Discussed in Texas
Dr Randall Stelly of the Texas Agricultural Extension Service says the state milk marketing order deserves study by producers and consumers. He notes that neither federal nor state orders can alter long run supply and demand, but individual handler pools align supply with demand better than marketwide pools. He adds orders aim for orderly marketing and success depends on sound judgment from all parties during hearings. Economic regulation began in the mid-1930s.
