Boston dispatch reports that an explosion in the after turret of the battleship Georgia during target practice in Massachusetts Bay killed eight sailors and wounded fifteen. The dead include William F. Pair and William J. Thatcher, with Lieut Caspar Goodrich among the injured.
Rear Admiral Albert Snow arranged hospital care at the naval yard for Georgia disaster victims. Midshipman Goldthwaite, Turret Captain Thatcher, Seamen Burke Thomas and Miller, and Seaman Hamilton died. Lieut Goodrich and others faced likely death as doctors fought to ease suffering.
