Eastern markets are winding down as court house empties and farm work rushes to finish. Auxiliary regular meeting set for Thursday at 8 o clock. Maxoni Lodge communication closed tonight due to school exercises. Next Tuesday is final day to file candidacy for county district or state offices with some important applications pending.

Cochran Georgia May 27 For the first time in many years J K Taylor of Cochran and Allen S Alford of Columbia S C Confederate veterans who were couriers in Col John Blounts battalion met in Cochran Tuesday They had been separated in 1865 when Macon surrendered to Union forces Taylor escaped to Cochran and Alford was captured They had believed each other dead until about four years ago since then they kept up correspondence only now meeting in Putnam county during Alfords visit to his old home.
In Columbus Georgia on May 27 John Warren 27 of Camp Hill Alabama admitted police that Maudie Bailey 16 jumped from his car during a trip over a narrow street. Officers say she died from injuries after being struck by a vehicle and blood was found on the car with bent fenders. Warren a one armed man was arrested after the incident near a highway bridge. He claimed she threatened to jump if he did not stop and that he searched the street for her but did not see her. Street width made passing a person unlikely.
Frank Danielly, 81, longtime Roberta resident and former mayor, died Sunday after months of illness. He led Roberta for 16 years before December. Survived by his wife Emmie LeSuer, two daughters Mrs. Brown Walker and Florine Danielly, granddaughter Emily Walker, and several nieces and nephews.
Atlanta May 27 candidates statewide face scrutiny over the chain store issue in campaigns for state and federal offices. The examination centers on how a campus or state house race might be influenced by the so called chain store menace. The probe reflects Governor Rivers touring the state to speak against chain stores.
W H C Dudley theatre operator of Americus files suit in U S district court Atlanta against ten leading motion picture producers and distributors charging Sherman act violation and seeking 8101,000 in damages The complaint says the defendants used contract forms to force Dudley to accept unwanted films and post extra bonds The Atlanta Film Board of Trade is named among the defendants for breaking contracts when he refused an Vitagraph film.

Macon May 24 Dr W F Quillian will accept as secretary of the Board of Christian Education of the Methodist Episcopal Church South He leaves Wesleyan with a record of expansion endowments and academic recognition including council and scholarship growth and full consolidation plans underway.
Former State Senator J J Davidson of Fort Valley announces his entry into the Georgia farm commissioner race. He will appear statewide with an official filing and entrance fee paid at the proper time. Davidson, known in the peach belt, joins J J Brown and a third candidate as the race develops.
Work began yesterday cleaning the lot where the Deiain Dry Goods Company store was destroyed by fire months ago. The new building will be large and attractive and will be occupied by W. G. Hill, a leading Butler merchant.

Columbus Ga May 28 Details of the sale and merger of the Enquirer Sun with RW Page Corp were released. R W Page will run both papers with Fred G Storey becoming editor of the Enquirer Sun and J F Crook continuing as Ledger editor. J E Page also named publisher. The Page group already owns papers in Bradenton Florida and Wilmington North Carolina.
Early plowing has increased in Taylor County lifting crop prospects. Cotton and corn look better than in 1928 1929. land under cultivation appears promising with growth ahead of last year. Watermelon acreage reaches a record, peaches are short but high quality, grain harvest underway with high yields expected prices favorable.
Due to higher prices at nearby markets and light deliveries from other points on the run, the poultry committee has decided not to run another car before late summer or fall.
