Golden Wedding Anniversary Celebrated At Childres Home

Relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Childres to honor the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Giles. The celebration featured spring blossoms, silver and gold decor, a white frosted cake with gold letters, and a lavish dinner. Judge W. Dy officiated. gifts in gold were presented.

Co operative Hog Sale Held In Butler Taylor County

About 40 000 to 46 000 pounds of hogs were listed for the second co operative hog sale in Butler today. Field agent assistance and grading by W A Lundy aided weighing and bid certainty. Outcome to be reported next week with a planned final sale on the second Thursday in April.

Prominent School Head In The City Tuesday

Prof. J. M. Prance president of the State Normal College at Americus visited the Herald office last week. The school is recognized as one of the best in the state largely due to Prance and his untiring work. He discussed plans for summer courses with Superintendent Austin, expected to draw many teachers from the county seeking valued instruction.

Sheriff Raids Large Local Still In Carsonville District

Under Sheriff R P Mc Guffin and deputies J W Bennett Homer Kaze more seized and destroyed a large still outfit in the Gray branch area of Carsonville district. The 600 gallon boiler and copper worm vats held sugar shorts beer and paraphernalia valued in the hundreds. The boiler was taken to Butley jail yard then cut up and sold for old copper to Hoke Windham of Reynolds. No one was present at the still during the raid and authorities suspect outside owners.

Adjourned term of Maylor Superior Court convenes

An adjourned session of the December term of Maylor Superior Court was held with Judge Frank McLaughlin presiding. Officials and out-of-town attorneys attended, hearing matters not requiring juries, including numerous demurrers and motions for new trials. Mace Walden pleaded guilty to concealed pistol carrying and received 12 months on the gang and six months in county jail. The spring term will convene on April 7.

Death of Vilas Duke Affects Tazewell Family

The Duke family of Tazewell mourns the death of their six year old son Vilas after a two week illness from colitis. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs R G Duke and two sisters. Mrs Duke was formerly Miss Earl Brooks daughter of Mrs Jennie Brooks of the city. Funeral services and interment were held in Tazewell on Monday afternoon with a large crowd in attendance.

Thomaston residents hurt in crash in front of Peterman home

Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pruitt of Thomaston and Mr. Charston Peterman of this city were slightly injured yesterday afternoon when cars driven by Mr. Pruitt and Mr. Peterman collided in front of Mr. Peterman’s home. The accident, described as unavoidable, occurred at the scene.

Florala Murder Case Shocks Covington County

The Florala murder case involves Tillman E. B. Davis accused of killing his wife Mrs. Davis after a car crash on the Opp highway. Authorities say he confessed to poisoning her with strychnine to end their marriage, and he was sent to Kilby prison for safekeeping.

County Bridge Completion Near Reynolds After Convict Labor

A 120-foot all steel bridge and quarter mile turnpike across Pat-aiktea creek two miles north of Reynolds, under construction for weeks to replace spring flood damage, will finish by next week. The county commissioners praise the project and note convict labor saves the county several thousand dollars.
