Perseus endures taunts at the king's feast as he recalls his pledge to bring the Gorgon's head. Embarrassed yet resolute, he vows to prove his bravery and sets off from the island toward the dangerous quest.
The state highway board announced bids for three Taylor County projects including an overhead bridge at A B C railroad at Apport, an underpass at Butler, and a relocation and grading of the Butler to Schley county line highway. Bids open March 21 with work to start within 30 days. completion targets push Route Three toward Florida.
Relatives and friends gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Childres to honor the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Giles. The celebration featured spring blossoms, silver and gold decor, a white frosted cake with gold letters, and a lavish dinner. Judge W. Dy officiated. gifts in gold were presented.
About 40 000 to 46 000 pounds of hogs were listed for the second co operative hog sale in Butler today. Field agent assistance and grading by W A Lundy aided weighing and bid certainty. Outcome to be reported next week with a planned final sale on the second Thursday in April.
Prof. J. M. Prance president of the State Normal College at Americus visited the Herald office last week. The school is recognized as one of the best in the state largely due to Prance and his untiring work. He discussed plans for summer courses with Superintendent Austin, expected to draw many teachers from the county seeking valued instruction.
A wedding reception featured sixteen grandchildren of the couple with nine present. Guests included Mrs. Florence Gordy Mrs. A. A. Watson Mr and Mrs O M Bartlett Rey and Mrs J C Adama and Kathryne Childres plus numerous others and families.
Under Sheriff R P Mc Guffin and deputies J W Bennett Homer Kaze more seized and destroyed a large still outfit in the Gray branch area of Carsonville district. The 600 gallon boiler and copper worm vats held sugar shorts beer and paraphernalia valued in the hundreds. The boiler was taken to Butley jail yard then cut up and sold for old copper to Hoke Windham of Reynolds. No one was present at the still during the raid and authorities suspect outside owners.
An adjourned session of the December term of Maylor Superior Court was held with Judge Frank McLaughlin presiding. Officials and out-of-town attorneys attended, hearing matters not requiring juries, including numerous demurrers and motions for new trials. Mace Walden pleaded guilty to concealed pistol carrying and received 12 months on the gang and six months in county jail. The spring term will convene on April 7.
The Duke family of Tazewell mourns the death of their six year old son Vilas after a two week illness from colitis. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs R G Duke and two sisters. Mrs Duke was formerly Miss Earl Brooks daughter of Mrs Jennie Brooks of the city. Funeral services and interment were held in Tazewell on Monday afternoon with a large crowd in attendance.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pruitt of Thomaston and Mr. Charston Peterman of this city were slightly injured yesterday afternoon when cars driven by Mr. Pruitt and Mr. Peterman collided in front of Mr. Peterman’s home. The accident, described as unavoidable, occurred at the scene.
The Florala murder case involves Tillman E. B. Davis accused of killing his wife Mrs. Davis after a car crash on the Opp highway. Authorities say he confessed to poisoning her with strychnine to end their marriage, and he was sent to Kilby prison for safekeeping.
Atlanta police recover Sunday woven stolen automobiles and Governor Hardman remains silent on an extra session question. In Fairburn a pistol duel left one man dead and another fatally wounded. Sumter Rayon mill in Americus is to resume under a new company. Rural Letter Carriers Association of Georgia set July 21 22 in Macon. Mrs Harriet Hudgins die d at Wesleyan College. Captain J W Barnett opposes Bad bond issue. Bessie Tift College glee club to perform in Macon March 26 for Kiwanis 10th anniversary. Dr Olin McKenzie funeral held in Cordele. Georgia Baptists plan conventions in Thomasville and Griffin April 7 9 and 9 11. Ten people in Powder Springs and Dallas taken to health board with a mysterious illness like Tennessee and Oklahoma cases. Georgia Senator Walter P George proposed for Supreme Court successor by delegation to President Hoover. White House visit followed delegation action.
The public is invited to an open meeting of Butler Post 124 American Legion and Auxiliary on Monday night March 24 at 7 30 in the auditorium. Commander Chas P Graddick of Barnesville and Hor Louis S Moore of Thomasville will be present. All ex servicemen and their families are urged to attend to learn why joining is important and what the Legion does in community county state and nation. Publicity Chairman
A 120-foot all steel bridge and quarter mile turnpike across Pat-aiktea creek two miles north of Reynolds, under construction for weeks to replace spring flood damage, will finish by next week. The county commissioners praise the project and note convict labor saves the county several thousand dollars.
The Reynolds and Butler program features an orchestra, singing, reading and dancing Friday evening March 14. The Newsom Orchestra is highlighted and child dancer Mil dred Davis performs solo. The American Legion Auxiliary from Butler is praised for their efforts in beautifying the courthouse grounds and public square. This week they add shrubs to those already planted, demonstrating active community involvement.
The Butler Herald reports two pure bred registered Jersey bulls purchased by the Taylor Co operative Dairy Association to improve local herds.
