Farmers to Vote Here Next Saturday on Wheat Quotas

Taylor County ASC committee announces a county referendum on wheat marketing quotas for the 1956 crop. Eligible voters include farmers with more than 15 acres. If two thirds vote yes, acreage allotments and quotas take effect with price supports 75 to 90 percent of parity. if more than one third vote no, price supports drop to 50 percent of parity. Polls open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Howard Community Club Barbecue Dinner July 4

The Howard Community Club hosts a barbecue dinner Monday July 4 at Carl Browns Lake near Howard. Lunch starts at 12 noon with plates at 1.00 including barbecue Brunswick stew pickle slaw and drink. Extra drinks pie and cake available. Fishing privileges sold at 50 cents for the day.

Felix Nelson Assigned To Columbus Office After IBM Graduation

Felix H. Nelson of Reynolds has graduated from IBM’s electric accounting machine customer engineering School at the IBM Plant in New York. He is assigned to IBM’s Columbus sales and service office. Nelson and his fellow graduates represent 12 IBM offices in eight states and in Canada.

Butler Reynolds and other post masters in the county enjoyed the annual session of the 3rd district also meeting in Columbus. The Howard Sewing Club was delightfully entertained Wednesday afternoon by Mrs D W Culverhouse.

Rear Admiral Harold A. Houser native of Fort Valley arrives Monday for a civic visit. A Pentagon liaison officer between Congress and the Navy, he will speak at a Tuesday night American Legion barbecue. Vacation Bible School Opens at Nazarene Church

Vacation Bible School starts Monday at the Church of the Nazarene and runs through July 1 with daily classes from 6 to 8 p m. Rev J C Whitener will supervise. on-site leaders include Mrs J C Whitener Miss Janie Neisler Mrs Leonard Ammons and Mrs Walter Almgren. The theme is Our Living Bible and invites children and youth of all denominations to join for worship study handcrafts and recreation.

Superior Court to Convene Here for July Term

The Taylor County Superior Court will open Tuesday July 5 with Hon. T Hicks Fort as judge. Hon. Russell Daviston Jr. and Hon. R O Perkins from Columbus will serve as solicitor general and court reporter. Grand and traverse juries were drawn listing numerous residents including Frank Peacock, Bill Bazemore, Henry Hobbs, and many others.

Talbot County Opens Bids for Health Center Building

Talbot County Commission will open bids at 10 a m Thursday to build a county health center with an estimated total cost of 65000. Building and equipment cost 58000, site and architect fees make up the balance. The site is two blocks south of the Talbot courthouse in Talbotton with a 400 foot front.

Second Polio Shot for Children Next Week

Public Health Nurse Mrs. Eppie Arnold announces the second Polio shots will be given at the Health Department to about 500 first and second grade children on Tuesday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. White children get shots Tuesday, colored children Wednesday. Transportation arranged: buses will pick up Reynolds area children at 9 a.m. Each morning. Butler area parents without bus access should bring children to the Health Dept.

R G Turner 87 Died At Home In Ideal Georgia

Robert Gregory Turner died at his home near Ideal Thursday after a weeklong illness from a fall. Funeral services were held Friday at 3 30 p m at the Ideal Methodist church with Rev Henry Thomas and Rev Steve Johnson officiating. Interment followed in Ideal Cemetery. He was born September 1 1867 and was a son of Levi and Nancy H Turner. He is survived by one brother J N Turner of Rupert and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Levi Thomas John Mitchell Lester and Tom Turner.

Albany Girl Shot And Seriously Wounded Near Buena Vista

A nine year old Albany girl, Martha Ann Jenkins, was critically injured by an accidental gun discharge near Buena Vista. Her brother Ernest, 10, was loading a rifle when it discharged while the family visited relatives. She was treated at Americus hospital and underwent brain surgery by an Atlanta specialist.
