Taylor Superior Court Opens Monday July Term

Grand and Traverse jurors are drawn for the Taylor Superior Court mid year term to begin the first Monday in July with Judge T Hicks Fort presiding. Solicitor General Ed Wohlwender Jr and Court Reporter R O Perkins of Columbus assist in official capacities.

Methodist Pastor Plans Special Service Sunday To Honor All Fathers

The church announces a Father’s Day program with Sunday school at 10 a.m. led by W. G. Wallace, worship at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. led by Rev. J. W. M Stipe. The Youth Fellowship meets at 7 p.m. with counselors Mrs. James Gibson and the Rileys. A Vacation Bible School runs 4–6 p.m. with closing events Friday at 6 p.m. showing pictures and awarding certificates.

Retired Marion County Farmer Dies At Home Of Daughter

Robert L. Goodroe 83, a former Marion county farmer, died at 8 30 p m Monday at the Talbotton home of his daughter Mrs T M Taylor after four years in Talbotton. Survived by wife Ola Benson Goodroe, daughter Mrs T M Taylor, three sons W L Goodroe Columbus R B Goodroe Jacksonville and Eules Goodroe Elberton Ga and 21 grandchildren including Richard Taylor star pitcher for Talbotton baseball team.

Smith Carried To Bibb Jail For Safekeeping

Americus Georgia June 5 Victor Smith an Americus night club operator was convicted in Sumter Superior Court of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was taken to Bibb county jail in Macon Wednesday night as a precautionary measure by Sheriff Jack McArthur. Downe Roy O. was killed February 27 on an Americus street. The jury deliberated two and a quarter hours before delivering the verdict.

Marion County Native George Blythe Dies After Long Illness

George Blythe 72 of Reynolds died May 13 at the state hospital after a years long illness. Born in Marion County he lived there many years and engaged in farming after moving to Reynolds community. He was a Primitive Baptist church member active in church and civic affairs. Survived by wife five children all of Reynolds and three sisters plus two brothers.

Woman Aviator Marian Mitchell Dies in Birmingham Air Carnival

Miss Irma Long also known as Marian Mitchell, a 26 year old WASP veteran and Birmingham native, fell to her death when her parachute failed during a stunt at the national air carnival. Her partner J Buckner was injured in the same performance.

Taunton Rites Held For Cross Roads Resident

Mr. A. J. Taunton 75 died at his Cross Roads home after three years of illness. He was born in the county and farmed until retirement. Funeral at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church with Elder W. H. Hancock officiating and interment in Bethlehem Cemetery. Survived by wife Mary Theus Taunton, three sons Worthen Harvey and Eulis Taunton, daughter Mattie Julia Peterman, sister Mrs. S. H. Miss Anne Halley Honored Graduate at Wesleyan Conservatory

Miss Anne Halley daughter of Mrs A M Halley of Reynolds graduated mag na cum laude from Wesleyan Conservatory Macon last Monday. She and roommate Miss Willene McGee Morgan were the only two seniors to earn the honor and were elected to Phi Mu Omega. Halley plans further studies next fall with pianist Ralph Lawton and has been invited to attend the Mozarteum School in Salzburg Austria next summer.

Farmers Urged to File Mid Year Conservation Reports

The Agricultural Conservation program asks participating farmers to report practices from January to June by July 1 and from July to December by January 15. The local AAA Office notes about one third of county farmers have filed for 1947 part one. others should file by July 1. Reported practices include winter legumes and small grains seeded last fall, fertilizing legumes or pastures, limestone, blue lupine seed harvest, terraces or ditches, and planting maples and grasses as part of farm improvement.

Funeral Services For Mrs Doxy Mott Held At Bethel

Funeral services for Mrs. Doxy Mott 76 were held at Bethel Primitive Baptist church with Rev. Jno M Cox officiating. Burial followed in Bethel cemetery. Mrs Mott died Monday night after a long illness. She was born in Taylor county daughter of Wesley Cox and Fannie Cox. Survived by three sons J W Clyde Otis Mott a daughter Fannie Bone and brother Homer Cox all of this county. Pallbearers included Julian Grover J W Ralph Clinton Mott and Homer Cox Jr. Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Boys State program brings 200 youths to GMC campus

Two hundred high school juniors from across Georgia set up a eight day Boys State on the Georgia Military Academy campus. They will form eight city governments then county government and move to Atlanta for state level offices. Governor Thompson backs the program directed by Col Charlie Morgan Sr of the American Legion Georgia. Two delegates will be elected to the national encampment in Washington August 1 to 7.

Rev James M Windham longtime Thomaston First Baptist pastor announces resignation effective July 1 to take the Maryville Tennessee post. He will finish this month in Thomaston after serving since June 1 1944 and helped organize the local ministerial association and county citizens league. Veterans services and organizations are urged to warn all veterans about a terminal leave bond racket. Loan sharks offer 50 percent of face value, hold bonds for 25 percent upon maturity, and charge 2 12 percent interest. A $500 bond could yield up to $165.80 profit on a $250 initial investment. Fitzgerald mourns the death of Judge A J McDonald a prominent lawyer banker and landowner who died unexpectedly this morning at his country lodge near Fitzgerald He was born in Jackson County moved to Irwinville and later Fitzgerald where he served as Solicitor of the city court In 1929 he became judge of the Cordele Judicial Circuit serving ten years He was a director of the National Bank of Fitzgerald and a major land owner with farming and livestock interests.

Macon Chamber Plans October Good Will Program

Macon Chamber of Commerce will again run a fall good will program led by the trade promotion sub committee. Tom Cook chair says the plan mirrors last year’s success with over 60 local business leaders involved. The October drive, with Georgia State Fair cooperation, will visit about 40 towns to strengthen trade ties.

Thompson Plans Expansion at Roosevelt Park

Governor M. E. Thompson stated on Saturday a plan to triple Roosevelt Park Inn capacity and double cabins by year end. He highlighted Roosevelt Park as one of three Georgia projects to be developed, alongside Vogel Park near Blairsville and Jekyll Island off Brunswick.
