Illness Strikes Local Prominent Citizen At Graduation
Mr. Wm. Allen Jarrell, a leading county farmer and cattle raiser, was stricken with a severe high blood pressure attack during Friday evening's graduation exercises at the local school auditorium. He was rushed to a private hospital room and was reported improving. He attended to witness his granddaughter Margie Jarrell receive her diploma, while his great grandson Tom Callier served as one of two mascots, the other being Judy Scott.

Woman Draws Five Year Term for Robbery
Americus, June 4. Marie Hefner, 19, Danville Illinois, was sentenced to five years by Sumter County Superior Court for robbery by force after a jury verdict. Judge Cleveland Reese pronounced sentence. Hefner admitted shooting L L Hammock of Oglethorpe on a Sumter county road in February while taking $49 and Hammock’s car. Hammock survived the stomach wound.

Murder at Macon Post Office Stuns City
In Macon a 42 year old Inland Container Corp employee, Robert J Francis, was shot in the Post Office building. The killer fled and remains unidentified though described as about five seven, stocky, wearing a yellow shirt and gray trousers. The weapon, an old 12 gauge shotgun with initials J H H, was left at the scene. Chester R Thomas has been charged in a separate case.

First Cotton Bloom for 1955 Reaches The Herald
The Herald received the season's first cotton bloom a large perfectly formed specimen fresh from the Poole Place farm of Mr. H L Wilchar on the Butler Potterville road two miles south of Pebble. The Wilchar farm runs 47 acres of cotton in high cultivation and anticipates harvesting a bale per acre or more next fall.
