Georgia Expands Peach Varieties With Coronet At Ft Valley
Griffin reports Georgia builds its peach industry with new early ripening yellow varieties. Coronet, devised at Ft Valley, is forecast to become the leading Georgia peach. Most trees are in the Ft Valley area, which produced about 75 percent of the state’s multimillion dollar crop last two seasons. The appraisal notes recovery despite a late March freeze that nearly wiped out this year’s $10 million harvest.

Roberta officials claim a $50 000 new industry for the town with potential to double in two years and triple in five. Sam Segall of Roberta Manufacturing Co. Inc. praised local citizens for the achievement during the Friday ground breaking. Dinosaur tooth found in Leesburg hints at 3 million year old remains
J S Dobson drilled on Oak Spring Ranch and unearthed a 2.5 inch tooth attached to jawbone with a three inch width and a small claw. The National Museum confirmed it belongs to a now extinct dinosaur and suggested the Oak Springs Ranch may house a full specimen dating about 3,000,000 years ago. The tooth, though well preserved, deteriorates when exposed to air and the find is donated to the museum.

Funeral Series For Mr. Byrd Held Saturday
Funeral services for William J. Byrd 63 of Reynolds were conducted Saturday in Bethel cemetery area with Rev. James M. Carmichael leading rites. Byrd, a prominent businessman and former Taylor County Public Welfare chairman, died Friday at Montgomery hospital after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his wife daughter Myra and several siblings and relatives.
