Dixie Limited Fireman Stops Train After Engineer Collapses
Albany Ga Jan 26 Quick thinking Leroy Chitty fireman grabbed the throttle and stopped the Dixie Limited when engineer A J Aspinwall suffered a stroke Sunday between Waycross and Albany. Chitty then pulled the ACL train into Acree and telephoned Albany officials who sent an ambulance. Aspinwall's condition was listed as fair later at an Albany hospital. Officials noted the train had a dead man’s foot switch that would have auto stopped if the engineer’s foot left the switch.

Three Schley County Negroes Sentenced To Electric Chair
Rosa Lee Ingram and two of her sons Wallace and Sammie Lee Ingram were found guilty of first degree murder in Ellaville Georgia. They were sentenced to death by electrocution after a jury verdict. The case centers on the bludgeon death of farmer John E. Stratford during a cows dispute. Jackson Ingram Jr. pleaded guilty to simple larceny in the same proceeding.

Herman Talmadge Among 21 In Elevator Mishap
In Macon at the Dempsey Hotel on Saturday an elevator car fell four floors carrying Herman Talmadge and 20 others. Talmadge was uninjured. three others had minor injuries. The group, all except the three injured, were to be initiated into the American Legion Forty and Eight society. The hotel engineer said overload and brakes slipping caused the fall. The initiates later completed the ceremony.

Saunders Named Cancer Control Head for Taylor County

Americus Jan. 24 Peyton Jacob announced Friday he will retire June 30 as President of Georgia Southwestern College Americus. Jacob led the college for more than 14 years and will retire under University System Board of Regents provisions. He previously served 16 years as Dean of Education at Mercer University Macon. Two Killed as Bus and Car Collide Near Milledgeville
Macon January 25 Two persons were killed and several injured when a Southern Stages bus and a passenger car collided between Milledgeville and Haddock. Deputy Linggold identified the dead as P. B. Ellaville Georgia January 23 merchant Claude Miller was attacked on his porch by an unknown robber who struck him with a wooden slab and fled with 60 to 70 dollars in cash and about 30 dollars in checks. Miller received first aid at a local clinic before returning home.
