More than five thousand pounds of poultry were sold at a cooperative sale in Bauer yesterday marking the first 1980 car. Bids from Hagie Poultry Co and Tennessee Egg & Poultry Co determined the distribution with hens and roosters dominating sales. Total receipts exceeded $1,219.00 as farmers supported the highest bidder, W. A. Lundy notes.
Mr D H Hannon and assistant Mr Wyllenderson are named local reps for South Georgia Power Co in the Reynolds area succeeding Mr A B Locke who moves to Cordele. Hannon, a young man with a pleasing personality, moves his family to Reynolds this week and aims to serve both the company and the public well. The Cordele community is urged to welcome the new managers and commend Mr and Mrs Locke as they depart with best wishes.
Sheriff R P McGuffin warns that February 28 is the last day to use 1929 license tags. Those who haven’t ordered 1930 tags may pick up pre signed blanks at the sheriff's office Reynolds Pharmacy Reynolds and Lewis Brown's store at Howard for convenience.
Messrs Oscar Dreizin and Alex Goldstein left Saturday for New York to buy stocks for their focal store and the Newnan outlet. The Butler store, burned weeks ago, will reopen once construction on the new building is finished.
Butler men joined a special American Legion Member ship Drive in Americus Tuesday night. Attendees included A. By Guinn H C Mercer Smith J P Harmon Walker with speakers Mrs Ghas gradalex State Commander and W A Simmons State adjutant. Local men reported a live post at Americus as new members pushed the campaign over the top.

Columbus Ga February 2 two youths Paul Leon Glisson 17 and Leonard C Green 18 of Beallwood were killed when the hired Ford roadster with rumble seat smashed on Standing Bay Creek concrete bridge ten miles north of Columbus. Earl Williams 20 driver survived. two others Miss Ira Ragsdale 18 and Claude Beach 21 injured. Williams held on double murder charge after admitting drinking. Speed estimated from 50 to over 55 mph. Authorities sworn warrants for murder.
Letters from Reynolds and Butler communities announce the February 14 spelling contest. A team of 20 champions will represent Reynolds, with officials naming both captains and listed supporters and substitutes. The note emphasizes sportsmanship and community spirit in the intercity match.
In Columbus Georgia on February 4 prominent clergymen including Bishop W B Beauchamp Dr C L Smith missionary to Brazil and Rev W H Budd will address a large gathering of Methodist ministers and laymen at the annual missionary banquet at the Columbus Electric and Power Company Service building. Dr Frank S Onderdonk of Texas was unable to attend. Rev Mr Smith will take his place. Several hundred attendees are expected with plates reserved and more requests coming in as the event is part of a regional cultural campaign promoting missionary work in South Georgia Conference.
The county reports activity in agri ventures including a poultry car yielding $1,219 and two whole milk routes from Reynolds Panhandle Carsonville Daviston Sumter and Schley to Atlanta markets. Vaccination for hogs to combat cholera will start in March. farmers with hogs ready for sale should notify County Agent Lundy for an early sale.
The Butler Post No. 124 American Legion organized a 10 piece orchestra Monday night with G. H. Taylor of Atlanta named leader. Members include L. R. Adams M. A. Chapman W. S. Payne J. C Perkins Braxton Turner Fred Peed Jr. Murray Driskell Mercer Smith H. C. Walker and William Trussell. They plan to assign parts at tonight's second meeting.

District Agricultural Agent J A Tohnson spent yesterday in Butler assisting Agent Lundy in conducting his first poultry sale. The sale was one of the most successful ventures ever undertaken in the county.
