Dairies Hear Talks at Talbott Meeting

The County Agent and six to eight dairymen from our county attended a dairy meeting at Talbott on Tuesday January 27 with talks by Agricultural College specialists. Heavy rains kept many away but attendees valued the event. The milk route has grown from 101 to 265 gallons daily and plans to expand. Pasture issues in lowlands and creek bottoms are highlighted as a main challenge.

Bill of Heath Cleaned Convict System Visits Butler

Judge E L Rainey of Dawson and state Prison Commissioners board visited the Taylor county convict camp in Butler gathering praise. He spoke highly of the camp’s establishment and upkeep and commended the warden and staff for their work.

Able Sermon Delivered by Rev Budd at Methodist Church

Rev W H Budd Missionary Secretary of the South Georgia Methodist Conference preached a missions sermon at the Butler Methodist church last Sunday at eleven o clock. He has served in key pastorates and district elderships and this was his fourth Butler appearance remembered and appreciated by many in the community.

Methodists Plan Big Banquet in Columbus February 4

Plans have been made for a large missionary banquet for Methodist pastors and laymen in Columbus on February 4 at 7 p.m. in the Columbus Electric and Mower company service building. Noted speakers include Bishop William B Beauchamp of Atlanta and Dr Frank S Onderdonk of San Antonio. The event aims to unite pastors and laymen from about 70 churches in the district for inspiration and formation with no collection, cost per plate 75 cents, reservations through pastors.

Spelling Bee Date Postponed to February 14

At a conference between Col C B Marshall of Reynolds and Judge J J Adams of Butler the spelling contest set for the courthouse has been postponed to Friday February 14 Valentine’s Day. The delay allows participants to attend the Fickling Masonic lodge meeting that night. Look for next week’s Butler Herald for entrants. Be sure to come February 14 and see some spellers win a Valentine if they miss a word.

Quarterly Conference for Butler Charge at Methodist church

The first quarterly conference of the Butler charge for this year will be held at the Methodist church next Sunday evening after the regular preaching service. Rev. Leland Moore presiding elder of the Columbus district will occupy the pulpit and preside over the conference session.

First Poultry Car to Stop Here Wednesday

On Wednesday morning February Beh a poultry car will stop at Butler from 7:00 to 12:05. This is a test run beginning at Perry and Ft Valley on red 4th and stopping at Butler, Greenville, Meriwether County on Feb 6. If the turnover justifies it, the service will continue through spring.

Ginners report shows 9,059 bales ginned in Taylor County from the 1929 crop prior to January 16, 1980, compared with 6,974 bales ginned by January 16, 1929. The figures reflect a rise in ginning activity and indicate a higher year’s output for the later period.

Butler opens a bowling alley parlor in the W. H. Trussell Furniture building with A. M. Halley owner and Judson Musslewhite as manager. The new double alley features chutes balls and pins and has quickly become popular as a wholesome recreational option.

Ordinary Peed Begins Today Distributing Pension Checks

The final series of $50 quarterly pension checks for Confederate veterans and widows are in Judge L. T. Peed's hands. Distribution starts today, covering six veterans and thirty-one widows totaling $1,950. At month end the first of $30 monthly payments will be made, continuing under the 1929 act.

Chambers Court to convene in Butler for one day
