Atlanta reports Former Gov Herman Talmadge said he would reveal his political plans next spring in response to Senator George's re election bid. Another former governor Ellis Arnall was mentioned as a possible candidate, with Arnall declining to comment.
Official returns show 125 Cotton growers voted for marketing quotas for the 1956 crop with five opposing. Quotas will take effect for the 1956 crop and the price support will range from 70 to 90 percent of parity as set by the Secretary of Agriculture.
Plan to join a motorcade to the Fort Valley Christmas Basketball Tournament on December 28. Meet at the west side of the courthouse at 7 p.m. Support the Butler Bears vs Reynolds Tigers at 9 p.m. Decorate cars in school colors and cheer loudly.
The Taylor County Home Demonstration Council sponsors a cake sale Thursday December 22 starting at 1 pm in the county courthouse. Proceeds support 4 H and HD Club projects across the county.
State Public Safety laws require all automobile and truck licenses renewed by March 31 1956. State Patrol troopers will be at Reynolds and Butler on specific Tuesdays from January through March to renew licenses via Validating Machines avoiding mail orders.
Oglethorpe Georgia December 17 W H Martin Sr 69 former superintendent of Macon County schools died after a heart attack he suffered Wednesday He had resigned as superintendent a few months earlier and had served in Oglethorpe Montezuma and Dawson He was a member of the Baptist Church Kiwanis Club and Lions Club.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Oglethorpe Baptist Church for Mrs. D. C. Smith Sr. tax collector of Macon County. Rev. Melvin York, Rev. Harry Thomas and Rev. C. A. Philips officiated. Burial followed in Oglethorpe Cemetery.
A dynamite stick planted near Sheriff Eddie Gordon’s office blew out three windows and another near the Veterans Service office shattered two more. An unexploded charge landed near Dixie Exposition Show tents on Spence Field road. no injuries reported, children nearby slept through the blast.
Washington reports continued expansion in November with industrial output at a record 144 percent of the 1947-49 average. Primary metals set a new high, steel at 99 percent capacity, auto output near record rates, and department store sales inching up while appliances and TV sets declined slightly.

The City of Reynolds schedules a January 3 election for Mayor and two Aldermen. Incumbent R L Swearingen and Henry G Hicks contend for Mayor. R L Bell J W Waters and Julian Whatley vie for the two Alderman seats.
House Republican leader Joseph Martin Jr says any election year tax cut will be modest. He notes the administration won’t know until April if the budget allows a tax reduction in the new fiscal year beginning July 1. He says a substantial cut is unlikely.
The Methodist Church invites all to a 10 a.m. Christmas morning Church School hour and a 9 p.m. to 12:05 a.m. watch night service to see the OLD YEAR out and the NEW YEAR in. The message shares Christmas praise and a wish for a sane sober merry Christmas across Taylor County.
J R Dunn a Baxley businessman takes oath as a member of the State Personnel Board succeeding M Cook Barwick who was not renewed after falling out of favor with Governor Griffin. Griffin swore in Dunn and eight others including several reapointments while Barwick faced removal from the Peace Officers Retirement Fund post. Barwick declined further comment.
Mrs R. J. Mincey Sr. of Thomaston has privately published Wings and Rainbows a collection with more than 60 poems reflecting the writer and family life. The book was distributed mainly to friends.
