Oglethorpe Georgia December 17 W H Martin Sr 69 former superintendent of Macon County schools died after a heart attack he suffered Wednesday He had resigned as superintendent a few months earlier and had served in Oglethorpe Montezuma and Dawson He was a member of the Baptist Church Kiwanis Club and Lions Club.

Funeral Held for Mrs. D. C. Smith Sr in Oglethorpe

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Oglethorpe Baptist Church for Mrs. D. C. Smith Sr. tax collector of Macon County. Rev. Melvin York, Rev. Harry Thomas and Rev. C. A. Philips officiated. Burial followed in Oglethorpe Cemetery.

Dynamite Blast Shatters Colquitt County Courthouse

A dynamite stick planted near Sheriff Eddie Gordon’s office blew out three windows and another near the Veterans Service office shattered two more. An unexploded charge landed near Dixie Exposition Show tents on Spence Field road. no injuries reported, children nearby slept through the blast.

Production Hits All-time High In Federal Report

Washington reports continued expansion in November with industrial output at a record 144 percent of the 1947-49 average. Primary metals set a new high, steel at 99 percent capacity, auto output near record rates, and department store sales inching up while appliances and TV sets declined slightly.

Dunn Succeeds Barwick on State Personnel Board

J R Dunn a Baxley businessman takes oath as a member of the State Personnel Board succeeding M Cook Barwick who was not renewed after falling out of favor with Governor Griffin. Griffin swore in Dunn and eight others including several reapointments while Barwick faced removal from the Peace Officers Retirement Fund post. Barwick declined further comment.
