O N Singleton Marion Citizen Dies in Atlanta
O N Singleton former state senator for the 24th district and Marion County attorney died in an Atlanta hotel Tuesday at age 46. He had been in poor health from a heart ailment and recently resigned from the legislature to become deputy director of the state workers' compensation board after relocating between Buena Vista and Atlanta.

N C Dabbs of Cartersville won Georgia's 1955 cotton production king title at the state five acre contest awards dinner in Atlanta. He produced 17 136 pounds of seed cotton on five acres about 13 bales and 2 6 bales per acre, earning a $500 prize. Presented by J P George of the Cottonseed Crushers Association, this is the second straight Bartow county victory following C T Cagle of Taylorsville last year with 19 343 pounds.

Huge Liquor Still Smashed Last Week In Houston County
Anti moonshine agents smashed a large liquor still in Houston County valued at seven to ten thousand dollars. They seized twelve 1500-gallon vats and arrested Wm. F. Gainey of Moniac and J. L. Jones of Newton Road on distilling and possessing non tax paid whiskey charges. Gainey’s bond was set at 1500 dollars amid prior bonds totaling 2500 dollars.

About 300 delegates at First Methodist church in Americus voted to continue operation of Andrew College under the Georgia Methodist Church. The vote followed an amended recommendation by the Georgia Methodist Colleges Survey Commission to avoid merging Andrew with La Grange. Reinhardt College merger with Young Harris was also proposed, with final actions to be taken by the North Georgia Conference. Bishop Arthur Moore declared the commission’s report the first straightforward account of the state’s Methodist colleges.
