Peach County to hold Democratic primary February 15

Fort Valley December 26. The Peach County Democratic primary is set for February 15 with candidate qualification by noon January 10 and voter registration by noon January 21. Warner Wells of Fort Valley will serve as secretary and treasurer. Seven county officers seek re election in 1956 as Peach county, organized in 1925, reaches about 12 000 population.

Albany Herald backs Talmadge expected Senate bid

The Albany Herald endorses former Gov Herman Talmadge for the U S Senate against Walter Georgia. Talmadge, soon 78, announced his candidacy in Vienna and pledged a policy statement in spring. The paper lauds his long career but questions indispensability to Georgia.

Six New Diesel Engines Ordered by Central Railway

Savannah GA The Central of Georgia Railway said it ordered six new 1750 horsepower diesel locomotives from General Motors Electro-Motive Division for nearly a million dollars. Last week it announced an order for 500 new box cars for about 3.5 million dollars. President W E Dillard cited rapid Southern industrial growth justifying modern equipment.

Masonry Meeting Ideas and Lodge Progress

Reynolds High School seniors hosted a Christmas themed Home Coming dinner for about two hundred alumni and friends. Principal E H Joiner received a leather chair, state records note 21 Christmas weekend deaths in Georgia, with eight more forecast for New Year’s weekend. Thoroughbred Horses To Train in Macon For Five Winter Months

In Macon Georgia a winter training program runs November through March at the state fairgrounds track. C E Drake in charge says 28 harness horses are present with plans to reach 60 by season end as owners ship horses south to train for spring racing. Macon climate is milder than northern winters.

Georgia Power Company paid Taylor County 1955 property taxes totaling 8165.59, with 4429.33 to the county, 3366.29 to school districts, and 369 to municipalities Butler and Reynolds. Nationwide, Georgia Power paid 4 145 million in property and other taxes across 342 municipalities.

Mrs Grady Rogers Injured in Fall at Reynolds Home

Mrs Grady Rogers sustained a broken left wrist and a deep cut on the left leg after falling from back door steps at a Reynolds home on December 22. She was treated at Sams hospital and later returned to her home in Butler.

One Killed One Injured In Auto Wreck

Butler and nearby Taylor county towns mourn a highway crash on Thursday December 22. Bobby Lee Hartman 23 died instantly and Jack Bloodworth 23 suffered critical head injuries after their Ford four door wrecked on Whitewater hill seven miles south of Butler. Bloodworth was hospitalized in Macon in critical condition. Hartman’s funeral was held at Turner Chapel with Rev Shefield officiating.

California Flood Called Major Disaster by Eisenhower

Rising California floods declared a major disaster by President Eisenhower prompted mass evacuations in Marysville and Chico, with at least nine dead and thousands homeless.
