Silent Night Origin Story From Arnsdorf Parish
On a 1936 Christmas Eve in Arnsdorf Austria Father Joseph Mohr wrote the words to Silent Night after a blizzard disabled the organ and Franz Gruber created a simple guitar melody. The hymn began in that village and spread worldwide as the Zillerthal choir shared it with visitors. Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth, is sung in many languages tonight.

The Taylor County Evangelistic Club held its December business session at Butler Baptist Church with Mrs. C. B. Bankston presiding due to Mrs. W. P. Folds illness. Reynolds group led by Mr. M. J. Wood reported six new members and total enrollment rising to fifty eight. A 365 day soul winning campaign was proposed for the coming year and next meeting is scheduled for January 16 at the ReynoIs Methodist church.

Taylor County Teachers Paid by State in Drops
The Georgia State Department of Education mailed checks totaling 1 507 000 to teachers, 112 000 more than the first October payment and 307 000 above last year’s average. Taylor county sent 6 680 to cover salaries for November 15 to December 15, with prior November payment delayed and funded by local boards. Under the 1987 School Act the state guarantees seven months of salaries, while ad valorem taxes are due to ease treasury strains.

Negro Man Killed In Street Fight In Butler
George Ross about 30 was fatally stabbed by James Moore about 23 during a street fight on the Butler sidewalks in front of the Cash Grocery store. Moore was arrested at the Taylor county jail on murder charges after Ross died at a local physician’s office from a severed jugular vein.

Well-Known Butler Man Richard McCrary Dies After Stroke
Richard McCrary, about 63, a well known Butler Negro, died at his home near noon Wednesday after a stroke of paralysis. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 2. He was affectionately known as Uncle Dick by friends of both races and lived in Butler his entire life, leaving a large family with several members in other states.

Mrs Pick Allen Dies at 104 Years
Mrs Pick Allen died Sunday afternoon at her sister Mrs Mollie Carpenter's home near Butler after an illness several months. Funeral services were held at Mt Pisgah cemetery near Butler Monday at 2 PM. Her husband died about ten years ago. She moved from Upson to Taylor county about twenty years ago. She claimed to be over a century old.
