William M Brown Sr dies at home in Howard

William Marshall Brown 78 died at his Howard home at 3 45 this morning after three days illness. He was born May 10 1870 in Howard and spent his life as a farmer and sand pit operator. A deacon at Junction City Baptist Church he also served 12 years on Taylor County Board of Commissioners. Funeral at Howard Methodist Church Friday at 11 with Rev B E Donehoo officiating. Interment in Howard cemetery. Survived by wife Frances Averette Brown three sons James Joe and William M Brown Jr two daughters Mrs M L Parks and Mrs H H Parks fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

Prominent Macon County Citizen W T Davis Dies

Funeral services for William Thomas Davis 81 were held at Little Bethel church near Ideal with burial in the churchyard cemetery. Born May 4 1867 in Taylor County he moved to Macon County 45 years ago and farmed. Survivors include four sons H S and N N Davis and two others, two daughters, one sister.

Home and Farm of Late U. S. Cox Sold to Edward S. Davis

The estate of the late Hon. U. S. Cox transfers its home and three hundred acres of cultivatable and woodland land on Red Level two miles south of Butler. Administrator W. S. Payne conveys title to Edward S. Davis, who has leased and farmed the lands for three years. The property is among the county’s most productive.

Butler Postmaster Replaced By Acting Official Pending Nomination

Under federal law Chas E Benns will leave the Butler post on December 31 1948 after fifteen years in office with a 96 percent postal inspection record. Carl C Hobbs 28 a World War II veteran and former owner of Hobbs Feed Store Will serve as Acting Postmaster until civil service exams and Senate confirmation. Hobbs and family have lived in Butler three years and are active in local church and social circles.

1949 Assembly Meets In Informal Session In Atlanta

Members of the 1949 General Assembly will meet with Gov. Herman Talmadge Lt. Gov. Marvin Griffin and other leaders in Atlanta December 16 17 to discuss vital state issues and legislation to be presented to the Assembly in January. The body will be split with half meeting Thursday and the other half Friday. The Governor will address both groups.

Taylor County Doctors Appeal for Blood Donations to Macon Bank

Taylor County physicians urge residents to donate blood to the Macon Hospital blood bank. The Macon hospital relies entirely on voluntary donors and notes transfusions as a vital service. Congressman Marries Son's Former Wife

Paonia Colorado reports Rep. R F Rockwell and his son's divorced wife Elizabeth Armstrong Rockwell were married in Miami on November 23. The 62 year old congressman plans to return to Washington December 19 with his 33 year old bride. Rockwell's son Wilson was divorced from Elizabeth in 1947 and remarried Enid Wolverton of Paonia last April.

Three-Way Crash Kills One, Injures Eleven Near Reynolds

A Sunday afternoon crash on state highway 128 seven miles north of Reynolds left Jake Hinton dead at Montgomery hospital and 11 others injured. The Atlanta man driving a 1941 Ford attempted to pass, causing a head on collision with a 1940 Ford and a model A pickup. State Patrol charged Charles A Putnam with reckless driving. a murder warrant was sworn by Tracy Hinton. The injured include Mrs Putnam with three broken ribs and several others, with funerals held for Hinton at Prospect church.
