Sheriff Takes Woman to Insane Asylum in Austin
Sheriff Jess Conlee departed for Austin at noon with Maggie Mackey, a young black woman, to place her in the state insane asylum. In Brazos County, M. J. Mundine, a black man, pled guilty to stealing remnants of cotton from his landlord C. B. Jones of Harvey community and will pay a fine. About 15 cotton theft cases have occurred this fall, all apprehended by officers.

The western cotton belt saw showers and moderate temperatures aiding progress while the eastern belt endured extreme warmth and insufficient rain. Texas and Oklahoma reported mixed gains and damage, with harvest delays and open cotton affected by heavy rains. Arkansas showed good progress despite drought, Louisiana picked up later, Mississippi faced slow harvest, Alabama rainfall hurt open bolls, Tennessee drought persisted, Georgia unchanged, Florida and the Carolinas showed varied opening and continued drought effects, and Virginia began picking.
