Under a state education plan the displaced basal texts are donated to the State of Texas. County superintendents may issue remaining basal titles including those dropped, while continuing supplementary readers. In Archer County near Megargel last night a gun battle with three alleged thieves left Sheriff Harrison Skard of Archer City dead. New Government Estimate Near Fourteen Million Bales

The Department of Agriculture forecast a 1925 cotton crop of 13,931,000 equivalent 500 pound bales as of September 16, versus 13,627,936 last year. Texas was pegged at 42 percent of normal with 3,873,000 bales. The Census Bureau noted 4,275,928 running bales ginned by September 16, up from 2,665,793 last year. New York markets fell $6 to $7 per bale after the reports.
