Cotton Receipts In Bryan Warehouses Reach 4693 Bales

Receipts of 1925 cotton up to Saturday afternoon September 12 total 4693 square bales across Farmers' Union Warehouse Parker's Warehouse and Eden's Ginor warehouse. The volume outpaces last year on the same date though much of the cotton is likely already in with limited further arrivals.

Temperatures of Past Week at College of Texas

A tabulation from the Division of Entomology at A and M College of Texas shows weekly readings from the standard thermometer. Readings list daily maximums and minimums from Monday to Sunday with averages of 89 and 72. Rainfall for September 11 and 13 totals 1.08 inches.

Bryan Pecan Tree Bears Early Crop

County Judge Ferguson brought to the Eagle office six pecans from the court house lawn tree planted in 1915 by Judge Maloney. The tree, now bearing its second crop, produced about sixty small yet sweet nuts. Continuous growth likely due to continued growth. Planting fruit trees would benefit Bryan and Brazos County homes.

Cotton Ginned in Brazos Up to September 1 1925

Three thousand seven hundred seventy seven bales were ginned in Brazos County from the 1925 crop before September 1, 1925, compared with 3713 bales for the prior year. Data released by the U S Department of Commerce Bureau of the Census and local statistician Joe F Howard of Bryan.

Shower given as farewell party for Mrs Huls

Bryan Water Declared Safe for Drinking Purposes

City Manager J. Bryan Miller received a letter from the State Board of Health confirming Bryan water tests as safe and satisfactory for drinking. For weeks samples have been sent for testing and the result pleases residents that their water meets all requirements for drinking.

Rainfall Week-End Not Very Large Across Drouth Area

The week-end rains were lighter in Bryan and vicinity than in Hempstead Waller and Houston, with inches measured from .06 to .38. Bryan logged 1.87 inches on Saturday and 1.08 on Sunday at College, and roads became slick causing several cars to skid or overturn on Wellborn road near Watthaber place.

Bryan's Quartette Sings at Martin's Prairie Free Baptist Church

Jess Hensarling J C Cloud R F Crenshaw and J S Whitten traveled to Martin's Prairie Grimes county Sunday to sing at the all day Free Baptist service. Rev R L Brown preached dinner was served and the day was described as very helpful with rain in that section.

Sister of A. D. Jackson Dies in Dallas

Mrs. W. H. Morrison of Big Springs aged 46 died at the Texas Baptist Memorial Sanitarium Dallas after a two month illness and operations. She was born in Crenshaw Alabama in 1879 and moved to Texas in 1893. Survived by husband Judge Morrison three children Walter Harmon Jr and Pauline two sisters and four brothers. She will be buried at Big Springs after services at First Baptist Church.

Presbyterian Sunday School Visits Itasca Orphanage

Miss Wesa Weddington and her Bryan area Sunday school class visited Itasca Presbyterian Orphanage to love and care for Lottie Mallard. The group traveled in two cars and returned after a rainy, muddy trip ending with a late night arrival in Bryan.

Mrs. Mattie D Willis Moves From Waco to Carnegie Hall

Mrs. Mattie D Willis of Waco returns to her Carnegie Hall studio after summering with her mother in Waco and sister Mrs Waldrop in Bryan She is named chairman of entertainment for the Dixie Club of New York and chairwoman of music for the Texas Club of New York She will start a lecture series on musical appreciation at Ballard Musical School next week.

New Baptist Church Organized Here in Bryan

A new Baptist church was organized Friday night at the courthouse with J L Reese as moderator and Mills P Walker as clerk. Dr Eugene Sallee and other Baptist leaders formed the organizing council and officers include Mills P Walker treasurer and deacons W S Barron Geo F Lee W C Bailey R J Halbrooks. The church adopted the New Hampshire Confession and Baptist Covenant and planned a Sunday School at 9 45 and B Y P U at 6 30 with Rev Charlie Bullock preaching at 11 and 7 30.

Benson Praises Tabor School Opening and Growth

C L Benson gave an inspiring talk at Tabor School as parents filled the opening exercises. The event foreshadows a record enrollment with about 40 transfers in and only three out. County Agent Benson urged parent, teacher, and pupil cooperation and cited examples of outcomes from effort. S C Hoyle also spoke to students and parents. Sister of H L Russell Dies in Harlingen

Harlingen reports the death of Mrs. W L Oler aged 51 at 9 p m Monday. Born in Greenville she lived in the Rio Grande Valley for four years. Funeral set for Tuesday in Harlingen. husband and four children survive. H L Russell unable to attend due to his wife’s serious illness.

Methodist Groups Met On Monday

The Woman's Missionary Society of the First Methodist Church met in group No. 4 on Monday afternoon at Mrs. J. B. Priddys home. Nine members and one visiting member from another group attended. Mrs. Eberstadt led a China study, followed by a business session and refreshments. Present were Mesdames Lewis Davidson Boyett Eberstadt Lewis Priddy Welch Lawrence and Jenkins.

Mrs Butler Named Dean of Women at Louisiana College

Mrs George B Butler of this city accepted a position as Dean of Women at Louisiana Baptist College in Pineville. She will oversee two dormitories with fifty girls each and move with her son G B Butler Jr and daughter Susie Butler to the co educational campus for the coming school year. The college enrolled six hundred students last year and expects higher attendance this session.

Deer With Dogs Hunting Sparks Local Controversy

A state newspaper reports a hunting law allowing deer to be pursued with dogs has stirred strong local comments and debate about its interpretation and implications.

The Eagle presents Section 25 of Senate Bill No. 3 Game Laws of Texas. It bans using dogs to hunt or pursue deer with fines from 25 to 200 dollars. Exceptions allow one dog for wounded buck during open season and exclude numerous counties.

Enrollments Reach Near 900 at Bryan White Schools

Opening day enrollment in Bryan City Schools shows 899 white students across East and West Side schools. West Side elementary lists 249 pupils, East Side elementary 375, and high school 276. The total is expected to rise with additional enrollments through the week.
