Frankie Parker Tops National Tennis Players at Spring Lake

The 17 year old Frankie Parker of Milwaukee beat Frank Shields of New York for the Hemphill Challenge Bowl at Spring Lake New Jersey, then defeated George Lott for the Kentucky title, and beat Gene Mako for the National Clay Courts title. He teamed with Shields to defeat Ellsworth Vines and Keith Gledhill in Longwood Massachusetts. Parker, born Jajkowski, began tennis at eleven and was mentored by Mercer Beasley. He will attend Lawrenceville and then Princeton under Beasley.

Temple Business and Professional Women Open Club Season

The Bryan College Business and Professional Women's Club opened its season with Miss Averlene Murphy of Temple as guest speaker. New president Miss Kate Adele Hill led a business session while Miss Stella Stuart and Blanche Brown and Myrtle Murray conducted a recreational program.

College Woman Dies Saturday At Local Clinic

Mrs. Mary Eudora Herod Morehead widow of J. H. Morehead of the Experiment Farm A and M College died Saturday at Wilkerson Memorial Clinic in Bryan at 12 30 pm after a illness of several weeks. She was 56 and survived by her husband three daughters seven sons and siblings. Funeral services were at the A and M College Baptist church with interment in Bryan city cemetery.

Mr and Mrs J L Cobb learn their daughter Mrs Ward Newport reports Mr Newport has a position with Curtis Publishing Company in Tulsa Oklahoma and has begun work. Mrs Newport will return to Bryan soon to prepare for their move to make their home there. Mr Newport attended A and M College until the summer.

City School Head Discusses Education and Citizenship

Supt. S M Brown of Bryan public schools spoke on When Is a Man Educated at the Bryan Federation of Young People's Societies. He outlined four prerequisites of a useful citizen and offered two definitions of the educated man, citing Bryant's Thanatopsis. The program opened with a women’s quartet and included talks by Miss Mildred Eudaly and Miss Frances Branch.

Bryan Party Arrives in Chicago Plans to Detroit Return

A party led by James Godwin and son Jack Godwin with Robert Cole Nelson Travis Nelson and Webb Slowey arrived in Chicago on Sunday. They will visit the Century of Progress Exposition then travel to Detroit where Mr Godwin will purchase a new car for the return trip. They traveled up the west side of the Mississippi and will return via eastern states crossing Louisiana. This marks Mr Godwin's second Chicago trip this summer.

Bethea Brother Named in Ninth Judicial District DA Race

Cade Bethea is among several attorneys named for the newly created Ninth Judicial District to succeed Will B. Browder as district attorney, announced by Gov. A Ferguson. The new judge will sit with Judge J. L. Manry in Waller San Jacinto and Polk counties. Other named candidates include Rep. Cleon of Groveton County Attorney Zimmie L.
