Funeral Service For Late Pastor Held In Madison County

Funeral services for Rev. T. A. Searcy aged 66 were held at Willow Hole cemetery with Masonic honors. He died at his Tribune Kansas home and was honored by Brazos Union Lodge No 129 and the North Zulch lodge. Survived by widow and eight children, with many relatives and friends from Bryan and Brazos County attending.

Paradise Found By Fishermen of Bryan This Week

A Bryan group went to Camp Eagle Point in Galveston county for a fishing trip returning Friday. The party including Mr and Mrs W S Tyler two sons Billy and Charles Mr and Mrs Paul A Cungus Mr and Mrs E M Holmgreen and three children Joe Dickie and Shirlie Ann reported 329 fish caught with 91 caught on Friday of which 80 were fine trout.

Rush of Swains For Licenses To Wed Seen Friday

County Clerk Clyde Goen reports a record rush of marriage license applications with four couples and four sweethearts approved by midafternoon. Licenses issued at 1.50 each, down from 2 under the former law, as applicants met all requirements. The names include J. G. Cloud with Irene L. Knapp and Tom Murray with Josephine Stasney among others.

Pioneer Pastor of Houston Dies at Biloxi Summer Home

Longtime Houston Methodist minister Dr. Shepard Ewing Werlein died suddenly at his Biloxi summer home at age 81. A founder of Houston's Shearn Church and a key figure in the city’s Methodist history, he served in many pastorates from New Orleans to San Francisco and remained active as associate pastor of Houston’s First Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Lelia and five sons, including Rev. Halsey Werlein and Cap tain Ewing Werlein.

Student Meeting For State Good Says Rev Brown

Rev and Mrs R L Brown of the College Station Baptist church report from the Texas Baptist Student Conference at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth that A and M College led all state schools in reports and good outcomes.

Conference on student work praised by Brown couple

The Browns called the Texas conference the best in their 13 years of work with students. The event opened Monday and ended Sunday with Rev. Brown teaching a daily vocational guidance class and giving the missionary address, while Mrs. Brown spoke and Miss Myrtle Robertson performed on marimba. They were joined in Fort Worth by W. J. Webb and LD. B. Roberson of A. and M. and many attendees from Baylor and Texas universities.

Bryan Editor to Speak at Temple Club Luncheon

Mrs. Lee J. Rountree publisher and editor of the Bryan Eagle is invited by the Belton Business and Professional Women's Club to be guest speaker at its October 8 luncheon in the Kyle Hotel Temple for District 3 conference. Degrees Awarded Bryan Students At A M College

Two Bryan and five College Station students earned degrees from Texas A M College after the summer session. Of 49 total degrees, 13 were Master of Science, 31 Bachelor of Science, and 5 Bachelor of Arts. Bryan recipients include Joe Jeff Danforth and William H. McKenzie, BA in liberal arts. Jim Colvin from Carrollton Mississippi arrives in Bryan to enter Allen Academy and join Coach T F Pany Wilson's Ramblers football team this fall. He is six feet tall and 210 pounds, plays end and backfield, and has high school academy and junior college experience.

Rev Henry Lubeck Dies at 77 Former NY Episcopal Leader

The Rev Dr Henry Lubeck honorary canon of the national cathedral in Washington and former rector of Zion and St Timothy Episcopal churches in New York died at his home Monday aged 77. He served as a prominent church figure in the early 20th century.
