Local Social Notes Ahead of Thanksgiving in Bryan

Bryan residents plan family visits for the holiday with many coming from College Station Austin and Giddings. The piece also notes returns from Hopkins Fannin and Mason counties and plans to attend the Aggies and Longhorns clash at Kyle Field.

Training school aids work with agents across Texas counties

County home demonstration agents from 19 counties and nine district agents will assist training. Cattle quotas are set for every Texas county by A and M College extension live stock specialists. Federal money of 500000 will fund purchase of about 20000 beeves this winter and buyers will handle the procurement through the Federal Emergency Relief program.

Millican Church Activities And Local Visits Highlight Week

Millican residents attended church services with Rev Carrington and his daughter present. Broncos Defeat Navasota Rattlers in Friday Night Showdown

Stephen F. Austin high school Broncos toppled the Navasota Rattlers 32 to 7 in Navasota. Johnny Mead sprinted 3 yards for a TD and H. G. Stallings added a 42-yard run after an interception, while Milton Merka and Patranella fueled two more scores as the Broncos seized control late in the first half and dominated on both sides.

Women of Brazos Aid Red Cross Relief Effort

The Brazos County Red Cross teams with church women from Bryan College Station and rural areas to form a joint relief committee. A meeting is set for next Tuesday at 3 00 PM at the Red Cross office City Hall to coordinate visits, garment cutting, sewing, and distribution of clothing to needy families.

Fire damages garage at Doane residence

Early this morning a fire damaged a corner of the garage at Mrs. J. 8. Doane’s home. Dry leaves in alley trash barrels ignited, likely from a discarded cigarette or match, with flames contained before firefighters arrived.

At the American Royal Horse Show in Kansas City Texas A and M College entered hogs weighing 225 pounds or more and earned a first place prize among livestock awards announced Wednesday.

Bryan Man Wins Loving Cup for Reds in Tarleton Contest

Henry Herndon received a silver loving cup for the best pen of Rhode Island Reds in the 1932-33 John Tarleton Contest. The high pen set a Texas record with 302 eggs totaling 330.50 points, while the ten-egg pen recorded 2,408 eggs weighing 2,509.10 points. Engraved on the Universal Mills trophy note winning Reds and Tarleton Contest. Herndon’s poultry won prior awards at the Houston poultry exposition.

Parade of Santa to Set New Bryan College Parade Record

Already 51 entries from Bryan and College businesses and organizations have been received for the Santa Claus parade. A canvass will be made next week to enlist more participants. The College tumbling team will ride a float and Santa Claus will distribute souvenirs to children. Henry Locke's German band will play in the afternoon as crowds gather to shop and enjoy the events.

The Southwest Telephone Company introduces a new telephone director for Bryan and College Station changing a 15 cent rural line charge. Under the new plan rural-line callers will be billed the same as local subscribers with no separate charge.

Death of Mrs Byers Remains Lamented by Local Friends

Reading the Bryan and Brazos county press with regret, they report the death of Mrs J W Byers known as Mother Byers at her Waco home on a Saturday. Funeral services were held Sunday at her residence and interment followed in Waco. Mrs Byers 71 had lived in Waco 32 years and was long connected with the faculty of the Baptist Theological Seminary at Fort Worth. Surviving are two sons Edward P Byars of Fort Worth and D J Byars of Kansas City Missouri.

Marshall Glover, a Black resident sentenced to one year in state prison for violation of the prohibition laws and released about a year ago, has been pardoned by Governor Miriam A. Ferguson.
