Acreage Cut in Cotton Is Well Planned For 1934 35

County agents report the government plan for cotton relief in 1934 35 aims to total 120 million dollars in payments with 90 million as land rentals and 30 million as parity payments. Land rentals depend on retired acres at three cents per pound based on 1928 five year production, with a minimum 2 25 an acre and maximum 14. Parity payments amount to about 5 dollars per bale or one cent per pound for 40 percent of the average production and may be shared with landlords. Retired acres may be used for productive farming or home food crops. The plan seeks a 40 percent acreage cut starting with 1928, and signup to begin soon with county committees retained at a reduced ratio.
