An Armistice Day pageant at Stephen F. Austin High School opened with Miss Malcolm McInnis directing and students enacting a war to peace tableau. Walter Lee Porter hosted, with songs led by Ruth Weddington and Anna Jo Bond, and country flags carried by named students.

Plans for Beef Canning By Negroes At Edge

Demonstration of beef canning will be given for negroes of that section at the farm of Henry Koontz of Edge. The beef belongs to Walter Kelly, a negro tenant on the farm, Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. The demonstration will be given by Mrs. J. O. A. Conner, Laurelia Holden, new Brazos county Negro home demonstration agent, and H. K. Harns bury, negro county agent. Kelly owns his own cooker and sealer. Mr. Koontz aids in making it possible.

Mammoth Sweet Potato Shown By Steeles Store Tenant

Chester Willis, a black tenant on the Jack Depuma farm at Steeles Store, exhibited a giant sweet potato in Bryan. It weighed 273 pounds and measured 41 inches in circumference one way and 38 inches the other. The sandy black soil of his one acre patch produced several unusually large tubers as Willis feeds them to his hogs.

Laredo legislator to resign for boundary commission post

Paul Hill of Laredo, representative for Webb and Zapata counties, will resign from the Texas House to become attorney for the International Boundary Commission. He is the fourth lawmaker to quit recently as Gov Ferguson sets December 1 for special elections to fill vacancies of John Ross, C. F. Sullivant, and W. C. McClain.

Cool Weather and Rainfall Totals From Last Week

A week of cool weather is reported with a high of 78 on Sunday and a low of 44 on Tuesday. The daily range on Monday was 48 to 50, the smallest yet. Total rainfall measured 0.355 inches, with 0.02 on Saturday and 0.55 on Sunday.

College Station reports a strong response to the annual community chest drive begun Monday. Staff in all departments contributed at or above expectations despite tougher giving conditions. The drive supports eight of ten College Bryan and external organizations, with ongoing solicitations limited to college buildings after this campaign.

Death of Iola Pioneer Woman Reported Here

Mrs. T. Dean of Iola died at age 34 with services held Sunday at 2 p m in Iola and burial in Iola Cemetery. Mrs. J D Conlee received word of the death Saturday morning.

A M Methodist Budget Adopted At Board Meet

The A M Methodist church held a Monday evening meeting with J S Mogford in charge as the board adopted the budget for the new year. The canvass showed full pledges from last year’s amounts and 8 percent of last year’s pledges paid in full. Workers from two Bryan Baptist churches traveled Tuesday to North Zulch for the monthly Creath Brazos Baptist Workers conference at the North Zulch Baptist church. Harvey Community Cans 500 Pounds Beef Into 176 Jars

Dozens of Harvey residents gathered at the Raines home Tuesday to can a beef weighing 500 pounds. County agents Blanche Brown and L Benson advised. Meat yielded 176 containers, mostly No. 1 cans with 15 in No. 2 cans. A noon turkey dinner accompanied the work.

Brazos Negro Henry Woodward Granted Conditional Pardon

A conditional pardon is granted for Henry Woodward a Brazos County Black man who received a six year sentence for burglary in October of last year. He was linked to the Knox Williams commissary burglary case.
