Texs A and M to Stage 15th Rodeo and Pageant

Animal husbandry students at Texas A and M College plan the fifteenth annual rodeo on Friday November 10 in the animal husbandry pavilion. Bronco Basketball Arrangements Discussed by S F A Leaders

Coaches Bill Carmichael and Sam Crenshaw of Stephen F. Austin high school met with principals J Vernon Brown and C M Bethany and Superintendent H M Brown to arrange use of basketball courts for the coming season. The high school court is condemned, so practices and games will be held at the two elementary schools.

Road to Humble Camp Improved and Bridge Repaired

Improvement of Ferguson Crossing road including strengthening the Navasota river bridge was completed under County Commissioner Guy P. Boyett supervision. The road widened thru the bottoms graded and graveled with smaller bridges rebuilt or strengthened. The Brazos side is ready for winter traffic while Grimes county side needs one half mile graded and graveled. efforts seek Grimes county action.

Bryan Groceries Plan One Day Closure for Armistice Day

Grocers in Bryan including D. Mike's Grocery and the Humpty Dumpty Grocery will close Saturday in observance of Armistice Day. The list omits Pin Money Grocery but other merchants are suspected to close as well. Most plan to close, though formal statements are scarce.

Poultry man Henry Herndon of Bryan earned top honors at the South Texas Exposition in Houston on Wednesday. His Rhode Island Reds dominated, with a first placed cockerel deemed one of the finest by the judge. his entries also took second and third in young pens and a hen claimed third. Nearly 500 birds entered from 125 Rhode Island Reds competed.

Old Santone Road Grading Under Way in Benchley Area

Work has started on grading and graveling Old San Antonio Road in Benchley after a $17 400 appropriation by the State Highway Commission. The project covers Benchley to Wheelock turn, linking with gravel east to Normangee across the Navasota River, with state forces under J F Blair directing.

Cotton Gains in Brazos Despite Leasing Rises In 1983

Brazos county records show about 4 000 more bales of cotton ginned by Oct 18 than the same date last year. W L Austin of the Census Bureau notes 16 344 bales counted, with round bales halved, in Brazos prior to Oct 18, comparing to 12 626 in 1982. The census bureau verified the summary.

Last week was strong for Brazos County 4-H clubs with Willie Turek earning a Santa Fe trip to the 4-H Club Congress and International Livestock Show in Chicago. Wage Escalation Rules In Rural and Urban Areas

The text outlines minimum wage increases under the National Recovery Administration. In cities 2 500 to 25 000 population wages rise at least 20 percent from June 1 1938 levels, capped at 10 dollars per week and not below 9 dollars. In towns under 2 500 population wages rise 20 percent from June 1 1933 levels, not exceeding 9 dollars weekly. Professionals and several outside workers have defined minimums based on the employer’s work week. Section 5 bars reductions below July 15 1933 rates even if hours are cut.
