Season Opens Wednesday for Duck Open. Bag Limited

Duck season begins at noon Wednesday November 1 and runs through December. Local hunters report growing interest as the season opens with a federal framework allowing 15 ducks in total with limits of 10 per type or combined and four geese and brant. possession limits eight geese and brant.

Mandamus Hearing Over Admissions At Texas A and M

Testimony in a mandamus case filed by Bryan residents seeks to compel Texas A and M college directors to justify why their daughters can register as students. Young Tabor Girl Dies After Short Illness

Mary Ella Barnes twelve year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Barnes of Tabor died Saturday morning at six o'clock after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at four o'clock this afternoon at the Alexandria church with burial in the church ground. She is survived by her parents two brothers Walter and Raymond and three sisters Ida Ruth and May.

Citizens of Brazos County are asked to vote on November 4 on issuing up to 15 000 for a county poor farm, 15 000 for buildings to house equipment in four precincts, and 26 000 for repairs to the courthouse and jail with taxes to back the bonds, plus potential federal funding if approved.

Washington Man Inspects BVCCA In Bryan Monday

W. W. Ferrow specialist with the Farm Credit Administration arrived in Bryan after noon to review the Brazos Valley Cotton Cooperative Association offices. He travels from Corpus Christi and will go to Abilene later today while examining cooperative efforts and marketing loan programs. J. R. McCrary of Calvert, president of BVCCA, met with him in Bryan.

Methodists Plan Merger of Texas Colleges

Denison Oct 28 The reorganization of the Methodist educational system in Texas under a unified plan involves abandoning one school and merging others. A six member commission of clergy and laymen from five Texas conferences will be created by the North Texas Conference to oversee the changes.

R J Newland Dies After Paralytic Stroke at 67

R J Newland age 67 years eight months died at his Bryan home after paralysis from a Sunday stroke. He lived in Bryan since 1867 except for a spell in Dallas and worked as saddler for many years. Survived by wife four daughters two sons a sister and four brothers. Funeral at 3 50 Sunday from his residence with Dr L B Elrod in charge. Interment in Bryan City Cemetery.

Five Year Term Is Given Taylor In Black Murder

John Taylor of Normangee, ex constable, found guilty of murder in district court after a Sept 3 shooting death of Henry M. Black in Macy. He received a five year state prison sentence. A motion for a new trial was filed and a bail or appeal path discussed as Judge W C Davis prepared to rule.

Home Oil Company verdict tops local court history

A nine day trial ended with a 21000 verdict for Home Oil Company against Sinclair Oil and Refining Company. The jury found against Sinclair after Home Oil sought 80000 claiming tactics forced it out of business. The case began October 16 and may prompt a new trial or appeal. Lawyers included Walton Taylor of Houston and Henderson and Hoyle of Bryan for Home Oil, and J J Sheppard Jr of Houston with Armstrong and Armstrong of Bryan for Sinclair.

Railroads Seek 2 Cent Coach Fare Across Territories

Washington Oct 31 The Interstate Commerce Commission was asked to approve reduced passenger fares by all railroads in the Transcontinental Western and Southwestern territories effective December 1. If granted one way coach fares would drop to two cents and Pullman fares to three cents.

FE. R. Burdeshaw, manager of the Montgomery Ward furniture department, is transferred to the Corpus Christi store and will leave Sunday. Ben Smith of the San Angelo store will succeed him here. Mr. and Mrs. Burdeshaw, long residents of the Edge apartments, are mourned by friends as they depart Bryan.

Lawrence Parker of G. F. Parker Lumber Company Bryan was elected chairman and E G Youens of J Youens and Company Navasota named secretary of the district 6 lumbermen association. Immunization drives reach Brazos County schools

Health officers and nurses immunized residents against typhoid this week in Brazos County. At Knob Prairie Smetana King’s Highway and Prospect schools 284 received final shots while 68 had first or second doses. Dunbar Wilcox and Gooker T Washington schools administered first treatments to 292 negroes as a delegation sought inoculation after a typhoid death.
