The Interstate Commerce Commission advanced its nationwide freight rate inquiry with oral arguments on Western rates. Proceedings may span ten days. The National Association of Railway and Utilities Commissioners formed a nine member committee to work with the ICC, including Clarence E. Gilmore of the Texas Railroad Commission. The Texas State Commission will join the livestock rate arguments.
In Lockhart on May 1 Mrs. James Peeler aged 52 was found hanging by a rope in her Dale home. She had been in ill health and was a mother of a large family.
The bodies of Mr. and Mrs. Omar Miller, missing since Monday, were found under a pile of sawdust near Stuedenville Ohio. They are believed to have been murdered.
Miss Willie Rogers, librarian, asks the person who took a blue bonnet picture from the library Tuesday afternoon to return it with no questions asked. The notice urges the return without any discussion or remarks.
Bryan and Hearne Rotary Clubs join for an old fashioned basket picnic at Sutton Grove six miles south of Hearne. Rotarians plus Rotary Anns and Kiddies are expected to attend. The crowd will gather around six oclock with Delco lighting to illuminate the green after supper.
Ida J Parker received a telegram from Clarksville Tenn announcing the death of her sister Mrs John Anderson who passed away that morning. Funeral services were held today. Mrs Anderson had been ill for years and her death came as no surprise. Mrs Parker cared for her at her bedside for two months bringing comfort. Bryan friends, who knew Mrs Anderson, mourn her loss and send sympathy to the bereaved.

Philadelphia May 19 William Vare maintained his lead in the Republican primary for United States Senator with a growing plurality. Returns show Vare ahead of second place Pepper by 11816 while Governor Pinchot also runs in the race.
Special to the Eagle reports the official A and M quartet from College Station sang Friday afternoon before the Southern Baptist Convention in convention hall Houston. Singers were Jack Criswell first tenor S D Muzzy first bass W L Ward second tenor and H E Calhoun second bass. Rev. R L Brown pastor of the College Station Baptist Church organized the trip.
A chamber report notes that Highway Committee Chair Jack M. Lawrence and members discussed maintenance of the 214 mile Grimes County segment across the Navasot Bridge on Highway 21. State Engineer A C Love ordered an immediate survey to assess the section and determine road repairs for prompt improvement.
Mrs Nellie Stephens, recently brought home from Temple Hospital after a serious illness, remains critically ill with greatly depleted strength. Anxious friends pray for a change for the better soon.

Captain Frank Chilton, 81, a member of Hood's Texas Brigade, died in Houston after a long illness. He was an early advocate for educating Negroes and is survived by a widow and seven children.
Dr D C McIntosh professor of Agricultural Education at A and M College will assist in courses for graduate students during the first six weeks of the June 7 to July 16 summer session at the University of Tennessee Knoxville Tennessee. He is an Iowa State graduate with a PhD from Indiana University and previously taught at the University of Minnesota. The McIntosh family plans a June 1 auto trip to Knoxville with Mrs May Moffett and Charles. later they will visit Indianapolis Cleland Ohio before returning to Texas by mid August spending two weeks at Corpus Christi coast.
MEMPHIS May 19 Doctor Stonewall Anderson was reelected here today as secretary of the Board of Education. Doctor L. E. Todd was reelected general secretary of the Board of Finance at today’s session of the general conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South.
Washington May 19 The Senate ordered an investigation into senatorial campaign expenditures by a vote of 89 to 18. The move follows concerns over spending practices in the campaigns.
The House approved the bill establishing Shenandoah National Park in Virginia and Great Smoky Mountain National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee. It had previously cleared the Senate.
In Birmingham Alabama on May 19 General W B Freeman commander in chief denounced disbanding the United Confederate Veterans as 3 500 veterans answer roll call at the thirty sixth reunion and pledge to carry on as long as two can travel.
At an early hour this morning rain began and by 7 o clock a half inch had fallen per the U S standard gauge. Farmers welcome the slow rain easing hard, recently heavy, to soften the fields.
Richard E. Byrd intends to pursue further polar explorations after becoming the first to fly over both poles. The explorer will audition prospects for additional journeys and sponsorships for future expeditions.
A telegram from Spitzbergen says Lieutenant Commander Richard Byrd of the U S Navy, first to fly over the North Pole, intends a South Pole expedition at once. Byrd and his party leave King's Bay for London tomorrow to begin preparations.
A. T. Mast and wife of Nacogdoches, travelers through Bryan, discussed with Secretary Sam E. Eberstadt the Bryan Building and Loan Association scheme and a possible Nacogdoches branch. The couple praised Bryan and A. and M. College and attended the Cattlemen's banquet at the college hosted by County Agent C L. Beacon.
Organist and choir master Carl Wieseman will present an recital Friday evening at St Andrew's Episcopal Church in Bryan on the Parker Memorial organ. Wieseman, praised as a leading Texas recital organist, has held posts in Brooklyn New York Louisville Kentucky Dallas Texas and more, tracing a long career from childhood studies to prominent church positions and recital work.
Allen Academy will stage the 1925-26 final military competitions and exhibitions on the R. O. Allen lawn Monday at 4 p.m. The event features a dress parade by the Allen Band and a close order drill between Companies A and B for the Waldrop Honor Flag and Christensen Rasmussen Cup. Cadets will also contest the Bryan Chamber of Commerce Medal in a manual of arms elimination. The program is continuous with music between contests and marks one of the band’s last performances before a June tour.
President T O Walton of the University and Farm College of Texas lauded cattle raisers for boosting the state's economy during a banquet for the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. He urged cooperation to solve marketing issues and praised A and M College for its service to agriculture and cattle industries. Other speakers highlighted government loans, agricultural education, and memorial efforts for the college.

W E D Stokes financier and hotel owner died today at his New York home at age 73. He had long been in the public eye due to his sensational divorce suit brought by his wife Helen Stokes.

Jacksonville May 19 Henry Stewart 50 a market and bakery owner was shot and fatally wounded on a street last night. Jack Carroll a Southern Pacific locomotive fireman surrendered to officers and was taken to jail at Rusk.
The Huntsville District Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South will hold its annual meeting in Groveton on May 26 and 27. Delegates from Bryan Church include Mr and Mrs Wilson Bradley Oak McKenzie and C R Gardner. Dr H H McCain, pastor at Bryan, will join delegates in Clarence Louisiana and return with them after the conference.
E N Brown, chairman of the Saint Louis and San Francisco Railway Company, was elected chairman of the Executive Committee of the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Railway Company to succeed Charles Hayden who remains chairman of the Rock Island board and Finance committee.
