Two Negroes Arrested After Fence Dispute in Kurten

Constable W M Conrad reports arrest of Tom McCloud tenant of Dr W F Odom and Sandy Green farmer on his property for a physical altercation over fence placement. They were released on bond pending term of Kurten precinct justice court before Judge John P Yeager. McCloud filed a complaint. The officer rode a mule through flooded roads and walked two miles to reach them.

Mrs W S Stewart Scalded Foot In Breakfast Accident

Mrs W S Stewart of this city will remain in bed for several days after scalding her left foot this morning. A pot of boiling coffee slipped from her hand during breakfast, splashing the foot and causing a serious burn.

Dipping Vats Must Be Cleaned and Refilled

R J Smith district inspector from Nacogdoches spent the weekend in Bryan noting that all dipping vats used for cattle shipment or movement that have not been filled since the first of the year must be cleaned out and refilled with fresh water. The regulation comes from the state livestock sanitary commission. Farmers should govern themselves accordingly.

Eliza Welch, Hearne resident, dies at 91

Mrs Eliza Welch aged 91 and eight months died at her Hearne home after a brief illness. Survived by three sons John T Welch Charles P Welch and Crama O Hearne of Jeanette La two daughters Rebecca Keith and Lettie Welch of Hearne and many grandchildren. Burial at Norwood Cemetery with Rev R S Marshall officiating.

Sophomore Struwe Drowns at A. and M. Fish Pond

R A Struwe of Caldwell a sophomore at A and M College drowned Sunday afternoon while swimming with peers at the college fish pond three miles west of College Rescue efforts were hindered by cold 15 foot water and debris J S Cole a fellow student recovered the body and burial planned in Caldwell Bryan officials aided in the rescue and transport The body was shipped to Caldwell on the 12 20 H and T C train with family and college staff in attendance

Asa W. Rhodes Dies After Long Illness at 75

Asa W Rhodes died Sunday night at his home after a long illness. Born August 17 1849 in Sumter County Alabama he moved to Texas in 1883 settling in Bryan then Abilene. Survived by daughter Aurea Rhodes of this city and son W Giles Rhodes of New Orleans. Funeral held at 4 20 PM from the residence with Dr John A Held conducting.

New Baptist Church Fund Surpasses 60000 Dollars

The First Baptist church finance committee reports funds for the building program progressing well, with the $60,000 goal surpassed. Despite competing events last week, contributions continued and a final report is hoped for next Sunday.

Judge J. W. Hamilton presides as the May term begins this morning. The docket lists only minor cases with no criminal matters scheduled for the term.

Mrs Eula Trant Hunnicutt dies after long illness

Mrs Eula Trant Hunnicutt wife of G H Hunnicutt of Bryan died Monday April 28 at 4am after years of suffering. She was born March 10 1871 in Keith Grimes County Texas aged 52. Survived by husband son Trant and two daughters Jim Francis Jr and Louie Ruth plus her father seven brothers and six sisters. Funeral at the First Baptist church with Dr John A Held. body sent to Keith Tuesday night for burial in the family cemetery.

Lions Aid Tabor Welfare Club Meeting At Tabor

About 10 members from the Bryan Lions Club traveled to Tabor to assist in the Welfare Club meeting. Walter Armstrong opened the program, C A Searcy led songs, and Dr Searcy delivered a medical talk with humorous anecdotes. County Agent C L Benson staged a pie-eating contest awarding a barber-pole candy bar to Bud Henry after a lively draw.

Large funeral attendance marks S S Clay of Millican

The funeral for Sheppard S. Clay of Brazos Bottom drew an unusually large rural turnout. Clay died at about age 48 from acute appendicitis after transport to a hospital in Temple. Services were at Independence near Millican, with over 100 cars in the procession and two truckloads of flowers sent from Bryan and other towns.
