City Policeman Quits After Shooting Incident

R T Cheatham resigned from the Bryan police force after an investigation into a shooting of Leon Plantinburg, a Houston resident. Cheatham said the shot was accidental but he fired to scare the man away. County Attorney Oak McKenzie said charges likely would be filed after continued medical treatment of the injured man.

A health program at the McDonald Negro School on Thursday afternoon drew 44 attendees including several white participants and Rev. F Rivers Barnwell of the Texas Tuberculosis Association. Judge Goodman Celebrates 81st Birthday Sunday

J L Goodman of Franklin who represents the 68th district in Robertson county in the Texas 43rd Legislature marked his 81st birthday with a Sunday family reunion in Austin. New Trial Denied In Horton Case Woman Is Jailed

The February term of district court ended with Judge W C Davis denying a new trial for Ada Horton who was found guilty of murder in connection with the hatchet attack on her husband. She received a three year state prison sentence and will appeal with attorneys J G Minkert and Lamar Bethea. A separate new trial motion for Oliver Petty, found guilty of assault with intent to murder and given two years, was withdrawn and he will be taken to Huntsville within days.

25 AM Students Suspended on Hazing Charges

Twenty five Texas A M College students were suspended for one week by the discipline committee on hazing charges. Eight seniors and cadet officers were reduced in rank. Freshmen infantry members were moved to other units and most suspensions carry a five point term grade penalty per week of absence.

Kurten and Travis school contestants shone at the Brazos County Interistic League meet with Kurten taking first in both contests and Smetana and Travis placing second in choral singing and music memory. Physician of Alabama to Locate in Bryan

Dr W A Jackson and wife parents of Mrs L A Wilson have decided to remain in Bryan permanently. He will open offices in Bryan for medical practice. For eighteen years he was surgeon at Georgia Tech in Georgia and served as a major in the Medical Corps at Taylor Field Montgomery during World War I. The couple are welcomed as new Bryan citizens.
