Car Crash Kills Houston Man Near Wellborn Crossing

Herbert L. Boggess 33 of Houston died when his car failed to hold the road at the Southern Pacific crossing north of Wellborn and overturned four or five times. M F Wolff of Houston and Fred T Eland of Dallas were seriously bruised and treated at Wilkerson Clinic. R G Boggess arranged for the body to return to Houston for funeral services Wednesday.

Texas RF S crop loan total rises to twenty four thousand six hundred forty six

A total of 24 646 applications have been received to date in Texas for the RFC crop production loans. Owen W Sherrill regional manager reports this is about three times the figure of the same date in 1932 when 8588 were filed. He says Texas committee men forecast 106000 borrowers to be handled in 45 days this year versus 40000 in 60 days last year.

Funeral Services Held on Monday For Lunsford Pendleton

Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Monday from Mc Culloch Dansby funeral chapel for Lunsford Pendleton aged 20 years 1 month and 5 days who died Sunday March 26 at 9 15 a m after a week long illness of pneumonia at the family home East 30th street Bryan. Rev S E Bledsoe of First Christian church conducted both services and the grave at Bryan City cemetery received the interment. He and his family had moved to Bryan from Hill county in 1981. The father J W Pendleton died in March 1932 and a brother died in March 1983. He is survived by his mother two brothers Lester and Lawton and a sister Miss Lillie Lee Pendleton. Pallbearers were Ray Pippin Reagan Warren Harry Burger and Ivan Boyett.

Woman in Hatchet Slaying Given Three Year Term

After about 90 minutes the jury found Ada Horton guilty of hatchet slaying of her husband John Horton. The court sentenced the woman to three years in state prison. Attorneys J. G. Minkert and Lamar Bethea will file a motion for a new trial.

Judge J T Maloney of Bryan has formally announced and filed his candidacy with the city secretary to run for city commissioner.

Tabor Children Immunized At Health Clinic

Dr R M Searcy and nurse Edna Abbott Shelton gave toxoid to 92 children at Tabor school on Wednesday along with Shick tests for two. Immunizations reached 84 complete doses with eight more to receive a second dose on April 12. Among the group are four infants 19 preschoolers and 69 school children Morris Walker attended on crutches after fracturing his leg Friday at interscholastic meets.

Chamber of Commerce opposes bill on tax funds transfer

The Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce directors voted against House Bill No 292 at the regular meeting. They urged transferring automobile license tax funds from the county to the city treasury, up to a $50 000 maximum, with the bill introduced by Representative R B Anderson of John.

Charge Filed Against Officer for Shooting of Leon Plattenberg

County Attorney Oak McKenzie filed assault with intent to murder charges against C. T. Cheatham a former city policeman. Cheatham resigned after his action was ratified by the city commission. The incident involved Cheatham allegedly shooting Leon Plattenberg of Houston after an encounter near the cotton compress on March 21.

Lawrence Auto Dismantled and Sold in Eastland

A suspected auto theft case in Eastland centers on the taking of T. K. Lawrence’s car March 18. One suspect, Frank Shrrm shire of Eastland, has been released. Ned Jones and Edward Thomas remain jailed to face the grand jury May 8. The car parts were recovered except back fenders and cushions. the vehicle had been sold to a dealer who is now held in Eastland.

Bryan Women Plan Drive for Clubhouse Funds

A Tex as Federation of Women's Clubs board meeting in Austin proposed a drive to raise 16 000 by November 7 to acquire a 200 000 clubhouse. The plan was announced by Mrs J L Brock and other officers after an all day session. Formal protests about proposed charter changes were filed with the Secretary of State and a March 31 ruling deadline was set.

County farmers urged to form advisory council

A farmers meeting with County Agent C. L. Beason discussed securing farmers against low prices through the live-at-home plan and a county advisory group. Attendees suggested a one-per-precinct council or a smaller countywide body to expand extension work and reduce duplication. The group planned a noon luncheon afterwards.

County Births Exceed Deaths Thru Past Year

Brazos county recorded 497 births and 8183 deaths in 1932, the highest birth total since 1924 except 1928, per a letter to County Health Nurse Edna Abbott Shelton from Dr. W. A. Davis. Population to 1932 REPORTED at 21,835, compared with 21,975 in 1924.

Three Gold Pieces Confirmation Gift Turned Into Bank

Rev. F. D. Urbanovsky of St. Joseph's Catholic church donated three gold pieces from his priestly confirmation to the bank. The gifts, two tens and a twenty, were presented six years ago as sentimental tokens and sacrificed for government support.

Badly Cut Arm Is Suffered in Auto Collision

Paddy Ruchti is nursing a badly cut left arm and a broken thumb after a Wednesday night auto crash. He was thrown from the left door as his car was sideswiped on Highway No. 6, leaving his vehicle badly damaged. He did not know the other driver’s identity.

Baylor Little Theatre Team Earns Second in Intercollegiate Tourney

Milton Maloney son of Judge J. T. Maloney of Bryan led Baylor University at Waco in the Baylor Little Theatre unit which took second place in the intercollegiate dramatic tournament. The group also featured Floy Banks Hazel Compton Howard Lumpkin and Maloney performing Tennyson The Falcon. Banks tied for best individual woman performer as the four-year-old event saw Texas Tech Trinity and others hold top spots with TCU and Rapior among prior winners.

Cooking School At Ward's Store Runs This Week

The annual cooking school opens Tuesday at 2 O'COOK with many women from College Station and surrounding areas attending. An expert demonstrates rapid complete dinners using a pressure cooker and claims nutrients are preserved. Demonstrations run through Saturday each afternoon at 3 o'clock inviting Bryan residents and trade area women to attend.

Conlee Country Home in Keith Destroyed by Fire

The country home of Charlie Conlee formerly of Bryan, now in Keith, was completely destroyed Sunday night with almost nothing saved. Rev. E. B. Thompson reported the fire began after church dismissal. Only a trunk and a bit of bedding were saved. the smokehouse and surrounding structures burned. The Conlees are well known in Bryan with relatives there.
