Longview March 21 The East Texas Chamber of Commerce praises President Roosevelt and the New Deal era. Hubert M. Harrison says recovery from the bank crisis is rapid and announces an East Texas membership campaign and Jacksonville convention April 23 to 25. He predicts renewed business activity and support for public works loans through the Reconstruction Finance Corporation.

Crop loan checks totaling 750000 mailed nationwide region

Approximately 8000 checks were mailed today from the regional crop production loan office in Dallas totaling about 750000 dollars. Manager Owen Sherrill said more checks would follow as approvals came in from the bankers advisory committee. Release was delayed by the bank holiday. the region covers Texas Oklahoma and New Mexico.

Insurance man dies after crash near Laredo

Ed O. Smith aged 30 from San Antonio died from injuries sustained when his car struck a concrete bridge north of Laredo on Saturday. He had been hospitalized since the collision and never regained consciousness.

Refuse Farm Job: Remove Black workers from relief lists

Two Black laborers of Bryan who had RFC relief aid were removed from local relief lists for refusing county farmers’ employment. City Manager R G Williams said this rule will apply to similar cases and no highway workers on No 21 west of the city will be rehired on RFC projects. A contractor check prevents duplicated employment.

Founders' Day at S M U Attended By Bryan Pastor

Dr L B Elrod, pastor, travels to Dallas for Founders' Day exercises at Southern Methodist University in McFarlin auditorium. He is among 13 of 22 original educational commission members invited to attend and witness a tablet dedication in Dallas Hall rotunda after the 10 a m convocation. The SMU founding began with 1910 church conferences and the 1931 Dallas land and grant offer.

The Woman's Missionary Society of First Baptist met at 2 p m on Monday for a two hour study session led by Mrs W E Wimberly. Underground Water Survey Aims At Irrigation Needs

Dr Lonsdale led an underground water survey with the Texas Board of Water Engineers and the US Geological Survey to assess water supply for pumping wells and methods to remove salt in wells. Rye 4-H Club Guests Lions Club Leaders Smoke Show

Paulina rides at a Rye 4-H club show as a guest of Lion Luke Patranella who oversees rural work. Miss Merka reviews the Rye club’s 1927 founding, 20 current members, and 1932 net returns over $300. She notes representatives at the Farmers Short Course and thanks the Bry an Lions. John Miniatis rejoined the Lions. Lions W H Andrew introduced a quartet, and a local essay contest was discussed.
