Commodity Prices Firmer Signals Stable Market Outlook

The retrograde movement of commodity prices slows to a practical stop with small declines last week. Analysts see a coming stabilization at a low level as a prelude to potential recovery as improved activity aligns with rising prices.

Upward Price Movement Seen Across Commodities

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram notes early signs of price increases in some commodities while others decline, leaving the overall average stable. Sugar surges due to Cuba’s crop cut and rising consumption, livestock and meat prices climb, gasoline wholesale prices rise amid curtailment programs, and cotton gains amid concerns over weevils and heavy rains. Wheat declines, erasing some gains in the commodity index, with building materials also slipping. The article compares this to 1921, where nonagricultural prices lagged behind agricultural ones, suggesting nonagricultural prices may rise with or before agricultural prices now.
