Plow-Up Plan for Texas Cotton Acreage Reduction

Texas Extension Service estimates nearly 60 million dollars may be disbursed to Texas farmers under the national cotton acreage reduction program if all offers are accepted. The plow up of offered land could begin around July 21 as notices of acceptance are mailed from Washington to county agents for distribution.

The Bryan Girl Scouts held a camp fire at Sue Haswell Park on a Wednesday evening with songs games and acting. Catherine Parker and Kirby McKenzie presented a playlet Sailor Boy and the program ended with Taps. Mr and Mrs H H Hardy of 1504 College Avenue Fort Worth announce the engagement of their daughter Dale to W B Langford Jr of San Antonio. The wedding is set for 8 pm July 22 at Trinity Episcopal Church Fort Worth. Dale studied at Judson College Alabama UT and TC A S member of Gamma Phi Beta. Brazos County Farmers Cut Cotton Acreage in 1933

County records show 893 Brazos County contracts to remove 15 656.3 acres of cotton. Cash payments total 67 760 to 104 514.50 with 4120.69 bales in options. Estimated 1933 yield 162.9 pounds per acre, down from 157.9 in 1932, five year average 182. Land to be removed amounts to 5097 bales, a 35.2 percent reduction. Ward Mooring led in acreage offered with 721 acres. John D. Rogers next with 554. Nudhe and L M Glaze tied for smallest offer at 2 acres.

Local Group Wins State Royal Ambassador Camp Prizes

The Royal Ambassadors group from College Avenue Baptist Church Bryan captured the first prize at the state Royal Ambassador camp at Latham Springs on the Brazos. Four prizes, including best camp, were awarded as the weeklong event featured instruction and recreation.
