Lightning strikes home on Haswell drive
A lightning bolt hit the Dave Monday home on Haswell drive during morning rain. The chimney blew off level with the roof and a small roof hole opened. The fuse blew and front room baseboards were loosened. no family members were injured.

Three Brazos County Public Works Projects Approved
Three public works projects under the Industrial Recovery act won approval from the Brazos County Commissioners Court. The Federal Home Owners Loan Corp starts Houston operations with four steps for mortgage loans. Brady Steele, regional director, notes the office opened Monday at 801 Caroline in the Guaranty Building. Child Saved From Drowning By Henry Lewis
A Bryan child about six or seven nearly drowned Thursday afternoon in a tank near the C. L. Benson home on College road. Henry Lewis, fishing nearby, swam in and found the submerged child. He revived him and the youngster cried, then was taken to his parents. the child's name was not learned.

The first bale of 1983 cotton produced in Brazos county was brought to Bryan by A. J. Wallin from his Brazos bottoms farm. The 528 pound bale with 15-16 inch staple sold through the First State Bank and Trust to R. M. Gordon Company of Houston for 15 cents a pound.

All Stray Dogs To Be Taken Up After 30 Days

City Cuts Tax Rate to $1.75 per $100 Valuation
Bryan city commission on Monday lowered the tax rate 10 cents per $100 of valuation from $1.85 to $1.75. The current-year renditions total $4,452,000, $52,000 below last year, attributed to lower merchandise stocks. City Manager Williams presented the budget with an open hearing set for August 11, and the panel approved a $3,000 advance to public schools to cover June salaries.

Sorghum Syrup Mill Aids Tenants On Eden Farm

Bryan and Brazos County Chamber of Commerce directors on Tuesday discussed delays in widening the Old San Antonio Trail from Benchley to Normangee.
